This document describes the LG OLED TV, models OLED55B8* and OLED65B8*, focusing on safety, setup, operation, and technical specifications.
Safety Instructions
The TV is designed for safe operation, but users must adhere to specific precautions. A caution symbol with a lightning bolt indicates "dangerous voltage" within the product, posing a risk of electric shock. An exclamation mark symbol points to important operating and maintenance instructions in the literature. To reduce the risk of fire and electric shock, the product should not be exposed to rain or moisture.
Fire Prevention: Keep candles or other items with open flames away from the TV.
Environmental Conditions: Avoid direct sunlight, high humidity (e.g., bathrooms), heat sources (stoves, heat-producing devices), steam or oil exposure (kitchen counters, humidifiers), rain or wind. Do not expose to dripping or splashing liquids, and do not place liquid-filled objects (vases, cups) on or over the apparatus. Keep away from flammable objects (gasoline, candles) and direct air conditioning. Avoid excessively dusty places. Failure to follow these precautions can lead to fire, electric shock, combustion/explosion, malfunction, or product deformation.
Ventilation: Ensure proper ventilation by installing the TV in an open space, not in confined areas like bookcases. Do not place on carpets or cushions, and do not block or cover the product's ventilation openings with cloth or other materials when plugged in. Ventilation openings can become hot during prolonged use.
Power Cord Protection: Protect the power cord from physical or mechanical abuse (twisting, kinking, pinching, closing in a door, walking upon). Pay attention to plugs, wall outlets, and the cord's exit point from the device. Do not move the TV while the power cord is plugged in. Avoid damaged or loosely fitting power cords. Always grasp the plug when unplugging, do not pull the cord. Avoid connecting too many devices to a single AC outlet to prevent fire or electric shock.
Disconnecting from Main Power: The power plug is the disconnecting device and must remain readily accessible for emergencies.
Child Safety: Prevent children from climbing or clinging to the TV to avoid serious injury from falls.
Outdoor Antenna Grounding (Country-specific): If an outdoor antenna is installed, follow precautions to avoid proximity to overhead power lines or electric circuits, which could cause death or serious injury. Ensure the antenna system is grounded to protect against voltage surges and static charges. Refer to Section 810 of the National Electrical Code (NEC) in the U.S.A. for grounding information.
Grounding (for non-grounded devices): TVs with a three-prong grounded AC plug must be connected to a three-prong grounded AC outlet. Ensure the earth ground wire is connected to prevent electric shock.
Lightning Storms: Never touch the apparatus or antenna during a lightning storm to avoid electrocution.
Secure Connections: Ensure the power cord is securely connected to the TV and wall socket to prevent damage and potential fire.
Foreign Objects: Do not insert metallic or inflammable objects into the product. If a foreign object enters, unplug the power cord and contact customer service.
Wet Hands: Do not touch the power cord end with wet hands when plugged in.
Malfunction Indicators: Unplug the product immediately and contact customer service if: the product is damaged, water or another substance enters it, smoke or unusual odors are detected, or during lightning storms or prolonged disuse. The TV remains connected to the AC source even when turned off by remote or button if not unplugged.
High Voltage Equipment: Do not use high voltage electrical equipment (e.g., bug zappers) near the TV to prevent malfunction.
Modifications: Do not modify the product without written authorization from LG Electronics to prevent fire, electric shock, or voiding the warranty. Use only authorized attachments/accessories.
AC Adapter/Power Cord: Never disassemble the AC adapter or power cord. Handle the adapter carefully to avoid dropping or striking it.
Cleaning: Unplug the power cord before cleaning. Wipe gently with a soft/dry cloth. Do not spray water or other liquids directly on the TV. Avoid cleaning with chemicals like glass cleaner, air fresheners, insecticides, lubricants, wax (car, industrial), abrasive, thinner, benzene, alcohol, etc., which can damage the product and/or its panel.
Preparing the TV
Initial Setup: The first power-on may take a few minutes for initialization.
Display Variations: Images shown in the manual may differ from the actual TV. OSD (On Screen Display) may vary slightly. Available menus and options depend on the input source or model. New features may be added in the future.
Accessibility: The device must be easily accessible to a power outlet. Some devices lack on/off buttons, requiring unplugging for power off.
Supplied Items: Items may vary by model.
Specifications: Product specifications or manual contents may change without notice due to function upgrades.
Optimal Connection: For HDMI cables and USB devices, bezels should be less than 10 mm thick and 18 mm wide. Use a USB 2.0 extension cable if the USB cable or memory stick doesn't fit the TV's USB port.
Certified Cables: Use certified HDMI cables with the HDMI logo. Uncertified cables may cause display or connection errors. Recommended HDMI Cable Types: High-Speed HDMI®/TM cable (3 m or less), High-Speed HDMI®/TM cable with Ethernet (3 m or less).
