Overview

This document is a simple manual for the LG Wi-Fi Sound Bar, model SL10Y, providing essential information for setup and operation. It guides users through connecting the sound bar to a TV, setting up Wi-Fi, and connecting other devices, as well as basic remote control functions.

Function Description

The LG Wi-Fi Sound Bar is designed to enhance your audio experience, offering a powerful sound output and versatile connectivity options. It functions as a central audio hub for your entertainment system, capable of connecting to your TV, external devices, and home network.

The sound bar features a front panel with basic controls:

  • Power (ن): Toggles the unit ON or OFF.
  • Function (F): Selects the desired input function (e.g., Optical, HDMI, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi).
  • Volume (-/+): Adjusts the sound volume.
  • Wi-Fi ( ): Activates or deactivates the Wi-Fi function.

The rear panel provides various ports for connectivity:

  • USB port (5 V 500 mA): Connects to a USB device for media playback.
  • OPTICAL IN: Connects to an optical device, typically your TV, for digital audio input.
  • HDMI OUT (TV ARC): Connects to a TV that supports Audio Return Channel (ARC), allowing audio to be sent from the TV to the sound bar via a single HDMI cable.
  • HDMI IN (1) / HDMI IN (2): Connects to external devices with HDMI OUT, such as set-top boxes or media players.

The sound bar also includes a wireless subwoofer for enhanced bass, which automatically connects to the main unit upon power-up. If the connection is not automatic, a manual pairing process is available.

Usage Features

The sound bar offers multiple ways to connect and enjoy audio:

TV Connection:

  • Optical Connection: Connect the sound bar to your TV using an optical cable. You'll need to set your TV's external speaker option to "Optical."
  • HDMI (ARC) Connection: Connect the sound bar to your TV using an HDMI cable to the HDMI OUT (TV ARC) port. Ensure your TV supports HDMI ARC and set its external speaker option to "HDMI ARC." If both Optical and ARC are connected, the ARC signal takes priority.

Subwoofer Connection:

The wireless subwoofer automatically pairs with the sound bar. Simply connect both units to power outlets and turn on the sound bar. A green LED on the subwoofer indicates a successful connection. If the subwoofer doesn't produce sound, you can manually pair it by pressing the "Pairing" button on the subwoofer's rear panel until the green LED blinks quickly, then turn on the sound bar. It's recommended to keep the sound bar and subwoofer at least 1 meter away from other wireless devices (like routers or microwave ovens) to prevent interference.

Additional Device Connection:

External devices like set-top boxes or media players can be connected via HDMI IN (1) or HDMI IN (2). Once connected, use the "F" button on the sound bar or remote to select the correct input source.

Network Connection (Wi-Fi):

  • Prerequisites: Ensure you have a router connected to your network and your smart device is connected to the same home network. Connect the sound bar to a power supply.
  • Google Home App: Download the "Google Home" app from Google Play or the App Store.
  • Wi-Fi Setup: Connect your smart device to the Wi-Fi network you intend to use for the speaker. For iOS devices, Bluetooth must be enabled. Launch the "Google Home" app and follow the on-screen steps for Wi-Fi connection. A "CONNECTED" message will appear on the sound bar's display once successfully connected. Note that a Google Account may be required, and the app's functionality is subject to Google's policy changes.

Bluetooth Connection:

  • First, ensure the sound bar is connected to Wi-Fi using the "Google Home" app, as Bluetooth is inactive before Wi-Fi connection.
  • Select the Bluetooth function by repeatedly pressing the "F" button.
  • On your smart device, select the sound bar's name (as set in the "Google Home" app) from the Bluetooth device list. "PAIRED" will appear on the sound bar's display upon successful connection.

Remote Control Functions:

The included remote control provides comprehensive control over the sound bar:

  • SOUND EFFECT: Selects different sound effect modes. Long-pressing and pressing again allows you to use TV remote control functions.
  • FOLDER ( / ): Navigates through folders.
  • ** (Information)**: Displays information such as file name, input source, connected Bluetooth device name, or application name.
  • Auto Power ON/OFF: Long-press and press again to toggle auto power on/off.
  • ** (Speaker Level Adjustment)**: Adjusts the sound level of individual speakers.
  • Surround sound ( +): Long-press and press again to activate/deactivate surround sound.
  • REPEAT: Controls file playback, allowing for repetitive or random playback.

Maintenance Features

While the manual primarily focuses on setup and usage, it implicitly suggests some maintenance practices:

  • Software Updates: The mention of "Google Home" app and "LG Wi-Fi Speaker" app implies that software updates for the sound bar's Wi-Fi and smart features would be managed through these applications, ensuring optimal performance and access to new features.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides troubleshooting steps for common issues, such as manual subwoofer connection if it doesn't pair automatically, and ensuring proper Wi-Fi setup.
  • Interference Prevention: It advises keeping the sound bar and subwoofer away from other wireless devices to prevent interference, which is a form of preventative maintenance for signal quality.
  • Fuse Replacement (for power plug): For units supplied with a BS 1363 approved main plug, it provides detailed instructions for replacing the fuse, emphasizing the use of the correct rating and approval to BS 1362. It also gives guidance on wiring if the plug needs to be replaced, highlighting safety precautions regarding live, neutral, and earth connections.
  • Open Source Software Information: The manual includes a section on open source software, directing users to http://opensource.lge.com for source code, license terms, and warranty disclaimers. This ensures transparency and compliance with open-source licenses.

The LG Wi-Fi Sound Bar is designed for ease of use and integration into a modern home entertainment system, offering a robust audio solution with smart connectivity.
