Overview

The Lincoln Model 82716 Air Operated Chassis Pump, Series "F," is designed for pumping low and medium viscosity materials, specifically grease, from drums and pails. This manual provides essential information for its proper use, maintenance, and repair, emphasizing safety and operational guidelines.

Function Description:

The Model 82716 is an air-operated pump that utilizes compressed air to drive a piston, which in turn dispenses grease. It is designed for chassis lubrication applications, delivering material through a dispensing valve. The pump operates by converting air pressure into hydraulic pressure to move viscous materials. Its primary function is to efficiently transfer grease from bulk containers to lubrication points, ensuring smooth and consistent material flow. The pump's design incorporates an air motor that cycles to create the necessary pressure for material delivery.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Airmotor Effective Diameter: 2.5 inches
  • Stroke: 2.8 inches
  • Air Inlet: 1/4" NPTF
  • Material Outlet: 1/4" NPTF
  • Ratio: 50:1 (This indicates that for every unit of air pressure, the pump generates 50 units of fluid pressure.)
  • Delivery Output: 80 cubic inches per minute
  • Delivery per Cycle: 0.55 cubic inches
  • Minimum Air Pressure: 30 p.s.i.
  • Maximum Air Pressure: 150 p.s.i.
  • Maximum Output Pressure: 7500 p.s.i. (This is a critical specification, highlighting the high pressure the pump can generate, necessitating careful attention to system component ratings.)
  • Noise Level: <85 dBA (This indicates a relatively low noise output during operation.)
  • Pump Tube Length: 8-51/64"
  • Drum Size Compatibility: 30 lb.

Usage Features:

  • System Hookup: The manual details typical drum and pail hookups, emphasizing the need for an air line filter/regulator/lubricator, correctly sized air and grease lines/hoses, and appropriate reducers, connectors, and accessories.
  • Priming Procedure: To start the pump, the air supply is turned on, and the air regulator is slowly opened to 20-40 psig to prime the pump. The dispensing valve is opened to purge air until grease without air pockets flows, then closed.
  • Flow Control: After priming, air pressure is adjusted to achieve a smooth flow of grease. The pump should not operate when out of material to prevent damage.
  • Pressure Relief Procedure: A crucial safety feature, this procedure must be performed before and after operating the pump, and before any checking, servicing, installing, cleaning, or repairing. It involves disconnecting the air supply, pointing the dispensing valve away from oneself, and opening the valve into a container until pressure is relieved.
  • Circulating vs. Direct Supply Systems: In a circulating system, the pump runs continuously and adjusts speed based on supply demands. In a direct supply system, the pump starts when the gun or dispensing valve is opened and stalls when closed.
  • Accessory Compatibility: The pump is compatible with various accessories, including filter/regulator/lubricators, eyebolt kits, follower plates, drum covers, and hoists. It explicitly warns that accessory "whip" hoses for dispensing valves are rated for 4500 PSI, and air pressure to the pump should not exceed 90 PSI when using these hoses.
  • Language Comprehension: The manual stresses the owner/operator's responsibility to understand the instructions, and if English is not understood, to have the contents explained in their native language.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Inspection: Prior to operation and maintenance, a visual inspection for leaks, worn, or missing parts is required. Damaged, worn, or abnormally operating pumps must be removed from service and repaired by an authorized service center.
  • Lubrication: An air line filter/regulator/lubricator is recommended for automatic air motor lubrication. If not used, a daily procedure involves disconnecting the air coupler, filling it with NO. 10 SAE motor oil, and reconnecting to operate the pump and distribute lubricant.
  • Material Restriction Prevention: The system should be flushed with a compatible solvent as required to prevent material buildup when pumping materials that dry or harden.
  • Corrosion Prevention: To prevent water or air corrosion, the pump should never be left filled with water or air. It should be flushed first with a compatible solvent and then with mineral spirits or oil-based solvent.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a troubleshooting section for common problems such as the airmotor not operating, air seepage from the exhaust, loss of pressure/volume, continuous operation, lubricant leaking from the weep hole, and excessive air in lubricant or lubricant from air exhaust. It provides specific checks and remedies for each issue.
  • Disassembly and Assembly Instructions: Detailed steps are provided for disassembling and reassembling the pump, including specific torque specifications for fasteners. It emphasizes the importance of lubricating air piston and pump gland packings during assembly to prevent damage and increase packing life.
  • Service Parts List: A comprehensive list of service parts with part numbers, quantities, and descriptions is provided, facilitating repair and replacement.
  • Periodic Inspection of Air Valve Mechanism: It is advised to inspect the air valve mechanism at least once a year.
  • Repair Limitations: Repair is limited to service parts, and special procedures and tools are required. Owners are directed to contact Lincoln Customer Service for authorized service centers.
  • Warranty: The pump comes with a one-year limited warranty covering defects in material and workmanship, provided the equipment is used and maintained according to Lincoln's recommendations.
