    Why does wire bird nest when loading wire on Lincoln POWER MIG 300 Welding System?

      If, while loading wire, the wire bird nests before it gets all the way through the torch of your Lincoln Welding System, check the torch cable for kinks and ensure it's laid out relatively straight. Make sure the liner conduit is fully inserted into the rear wire drive, up against the inner black plastic wire guide. If the inner black plastic wire guide is worn out, replace it. Slow down the wire feed speed while pushing the wire through the liner, recommending a setting of 350 ipm. Finally, clean or replace the contact tip.

    Why does wire burn back to the tip during welding on Lincoln Welding System?

      If, during welding, the wire continues to burn back to the tip on your Lincoln Welding System, ensure the spindle brake isn't set too tight and that an aluminum spacer is behind it. Check that the POWER MIG 300 drive rolls aren't too tight; the tension arm should be set to 1 to 1-1/2. For Push-Pull torches, ensure the drive rolls aren't too tight, referring to the owner's manual for the proper setting. If pulse welding, the trim value may be set too high. Clean or replace the contact tip. If the problem continues, the Stall Factor Number needs to be increased.

      If the arc length varies while welding (arc length is not constant) with your Lincoln Welding System, the PM 300 drive rolls may be set too tight; the tension arm should be set at 1 to 1-1/2. Check that the spindle brake is not set too tight and that there is an aluminum spacer behind it. Clean or replace the contact tip. If the problem continues, the Stall Factor Number needs to be increased.

      If gas does not flow when the gun trigger is pulled on your Lincoln Welding System, first, ensure that the gas supply is properly connected and turned 'on'. If the gas solenoid actuates (clicks) when the trigger is pulled, there may be a restriction in the gas supply line. The gun cable assembly may be faulty, so check or replace it. If the gas solenoid does not operate when the gun trigger is pulled, the problem is within the POWER MIG 300. Also, make sure the gun is pushed all the way into the gun mount and is properly seated.

      If wire bird nests while welding with your Lincoln Welding System, ensure the torch liner conduit is fully inserted so that it touches the inner black plastic wire guide. If the inner black plastic wire guide is worn out, replace it. Check that the Push-Pull torch drive rolls aren't set too tight, referring to the owner's manual for the proper setting. If the problem continues, lower your Stall Factor Number.

      If, while loading wire, the wire bird nests because it misses the outlet guide while shooting the gap in the torch of your Lincoln Welding System, straighten the first six inches of the wire before feeding it into the rear wire drive. Ensure the torch drive rolls are tightened slightly to help the wire jump the gap. Slow down the wire feed speed while pushing wire through the torch liner, recommending a setting of 350 ipm. If the problem continues, the Stall Factor Number needs to be decreased.

      To address input fuses blowing or the input breaker tripping on your Lincoln Welding System, first, consider that the welding procedure might be drawing too much output current, or the duty cycle could be too high. Try reducing the output current, the duty cycle, or both. Also, ensure that the fuses or breakers are properly sized by checking the installation section of the manual for recommended fuse and breaker sizes. If problems persist, it is recommended to contact an authorized Lincoln Electric Service facility.
