Why does my Lister Petter TS/TR2 have excessive carbon deposits?
    • W
      walshannAug 22, 2025
Excessive carbon deposits in your Lister Petter Engine can be caused by several factors. These include a choked air filter, a choked exhaust system, unsuitable fuel, unsuitable lubricating oil, or continuous low or no-load running. To resolve this, dismantle and clean the cap and element of the air filter if it is choked, dismantle and clean the exhaust system if it is choked, use fuel of the correct specification if the fuel is unsuitable, and use oil of the correct viscosity and specification if the lubricating oil is unsuitable. Also, investigate your load management program if the engine is continuously running at a low or no load.

What to do if my Lister Petter TS/TR2 Engine is difficult to start?
    • D
      Diane BartlettNov 6, 2025
If your Lister Petter Engine is difficult to start, there could be several reasons. First, ensure you are using the correct starting procedure. Other potential causes include unsuitable lubricating oil (too heavy), incorrect fuel, no fuel in the tank, a choked fuel filter, or an air lock in the fuel system. You might also have water or dirt in the fuel system, a dirty or faulty injector, or a discharged battery. Check the fuel pump solenoid, battery connections, and the fuel pump itself. If the lubricating oil is too heavy, use oil of the correct viscosity and specification; if the fuel is incorrect, use fuel of the correct specification; if there is no fuel, refill the tank; if the fuel filter is choked, replace it; if there is an air lock, check the fuel level and prime the fuel filter; ...
