Overview

The LiveU LU2000 Server is a robust system designed for video input, processing, and distribution, primarily for live streaming and broadcast applications. It integrates Blackmagic Design DeckLink cards for video capture and output, offering various configurations to suit different operational needs. The server is managed through a command-line interface, providing both a "Wizard Flow" for initial setup and a "Manual Flow" for advanced configuration and ongoing maintenance.

Function Description:

The LU2000 Server acts as a central hub for receiving video and audio streams from LiveU devices, processing them, and outputting them for various uses, including live preview, recording, and distribution. It supports multiple video input channels depending on the DeckLink card configuration (Studio, DeckLink, Duo, Quad, Quad 2). The server is designed to handle high-bandwidth UDP video streams and offers features like IFB (Interruptible Foldback) for communication with field units, encryption for secure transmissions, and integration with LiveU Central for remote management and monitoring. It also supports file server functionalities for storing and forwarding media.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Video Input/Output: Supports HD/SD-SDI input and output via Blackmagic DeckLink cards. Configurations include:
    • DeckLink Studio: 1 HD/SD-SDI Output, 1 HD/SD-SDI Input, Deck Control.
    • DeckLink: 1 HD/SD-SDI Output, 1 HD/SD-SDI Input, Deck Control RS-422, Ref In.
    • DeckLink Duo: 2 HD/SD-SDI Outputs, 2 HD/SD-SDI Inputs, Ref In.
    • DeckLink Quad: 4 HD/SD-SDI Outputs, 4 HD/SD-SDI Inputs, Ref In.
    • DeckLink Quad 2: Similar to Quad with 4 HD/SD-SDI Outputs and 4 HD/SD-SDI Inputs, Ref In.
  • Network Protocols:
    • Inbound UDP: 8601-8606 (video/audio from LiveU devices), 8609-8615 (IFB), 8620-8667 (Panasonic camera direct streaming), Special: Any UDP (requires whitelisting for flood/attack prevention).
    • Inbound TCP: 8601-8606 (session initialization for Panasonic solution), 1935 (RTMP video preview in LiveU Central), 18255 (HTTP delivery of shared files).
    • Outbound TCP: 873, 1873, 22222 (remote update of MMH servers), 80, 443, 8543 (LiveU Central/HUB communication, updates), 10020, 10021 (Command and Control), 8400-8600 (Medic support tool), 80, 443, 5938 (TeamViewer).
    • Outbound UDP: 9000-9099 (LiveU Multipoint distributor), 9000-9010 (LiveU Matrix transmissions to cloud service).
  • Audio Devices for IFB (Version 7.0):
    • Komplete Audio 6 (4 ports, not recommended for new deployments).
    • Presonus AudioBox 22VSL (2 port XLR).
    • Presonus AudioBox 1818VSL (8 port XLR).
  • Operating System: Linux-based, managed via command line.
  • Firmware: Blackmagic firmware updates are checked on startup and initiated if required, potentially requiring a reboot.

Usage Features:

  • Installation and Setup:
    • Login: Username liveu, Password 123123.
    • Setup Utility: Launched via liveu-config.
    • Wizard Flow: Recommended for initial setup, guiding through networking, environment, registration, channel setup, SDI output, and verification.
    • Manual Flow: For advanced configuration, including encryption, IFB volume, and Blackmagic output testing.
  • Network Configuration:
    • Allows configuration of multiple Ethernet ports.
    • Supports static IP configuration (recommended) over DHCP.
    • Requires specific outbound ports for communication with LiveU Central, LiveU HUBs, and Medic servers.
    • Requires DNS server access.
  • Channel Configuration:
    • Allows selection of the number of video input channels (instances) based on the installed DeckLink card (e.g., 2 for Duo, 4 for Quad).
    • Configurable UDP ports for video reception, IFB, and Base RTP. Recommended port ranges are provided (e.g., 8601-8608 for video, 8609-8612 for IFB, 8620-8648 for RTP). Different ranges are recommended for secondary LiveU servers to avoid conflicts.
  • SDI Output Configuration:
    • Allows assignment of SDI output cards to specific channels.
    • Supports disabling SDI output for channels used as preview channels.
  • Encryption:
    • Optional feature to set an encryption password for secure transmissions. Can be disabled by leaving the password field blank.
  • IFB Configuration:
    • Requires compatible audio devices to be plugged in beforehand.
    • Allows configuration of IFB volume for each channel, ranging from 0 to 127.
  • Blackmagic Output Test:
    • Provides a utility to test SDI connectivity and resolutions.
    • Sends Bars and Tone out of individual SDI outputs. During this test, the server appears offline in LiveU Central.
    • Allows selection of various resolutions for testing (e.g., 720p50, 1080i50, 1080p25).

Maintenance Features:

  • Configuration Verification:
    • A "Verify Setup" step checks network connectivity to Google, LiveU hubs, LiveU Central, Medic servers, and verifies firewall rules for all configured ports (S&F, Preview, UDP channels).
    • Confirms LiveU services are running correctly and Blackmagic firmware is up to date.
  • Remote Access:
    • Integrates TeamViewer for remote desktop access by LiveU Support for diagnostics, debugging, and remote upgrades.
    • Requires specific outbound TCP ports (80, 443, 5938) to be open for TeamViewer functionality.
    • Installation of TeamViewer involves using sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get install gdebi, followed by downloading and installing the teamviewer_i386.deb package.
  • Firmware Updates:
    • The system automatically checks for Blackmagic firmware updates on startup and prompts for installation if needed.
  • Error Handling:
    • Provides clear messages during setup (e.g., "Encryption password set successfully," "All tests passed," "SUCCESS") to indicate status and potential issues.
    • The setup utility can be rerun at any time for re-configuration or verification.
