FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
GENERAL INFORMATION
The DC3P event recorder communicates via cellular, much like a cell phone. Once powered, it will
begin to search for a cellular signal and may begin to send or receive information. The status lights
will indicate what is happening. See Appendix A for a complete description of all DC3P status light
behaviors.
What is the best way to ROUTE THE POWER CABLE?
Unless power and ground connections can be found near the rear view mirror, the power
cable is typically tucked under the window and door trim. This usually requires the trim be
removedthese are often attached with clips that snap on and off easily. The cable is
usually routed out from under the trim just below the top hinge of the driver-side door
then routed under the dashboard. Make sure the cable is well secured and cannot get
pinched in the door.
What is the best way to CONNECT THE WIRING?
Due to the variety of preferred wiring methods (ring terminal connectors, splice
connectors, Add-A-Circuit fuse taps and Posi-Taps), electrical connectors are not included in
the hardware kit. Refer to the vehicle service manual for information about installation and
wiring of aftermarket devices. Only a properly qualified technician should install and
maintain the DC3P.
What if I need to EXTEND THE WIRING?
If wires need to be extended, extend the ground wire first. If you must extend the red or
brown wires, keep them as short as possible. If the extended length exceeds 16 inches,
place an inline fuse (1-3 Amp) between the extended wire and the power connection. The
gauge of wire used for the extension must be the same gauge as the power cable wires or
larger. Do not cut the large black power cable.
Why are there TWO DIFFERENT POWER CONNECTIONS?
WARNING: In vehicles with side or curtain airbags, the trim clips are often one time use,
meaning you cannot just snap them back onthey may need to be replaced. CONSULT
THE VEHICLE SERVICE MANUAL FOR INFORMATION ABOUT PROPER TECHNIQUES WHEN
WORKING AROUND VEHICLE AIRBAGS.
