TROUBLE PROBABLE CAUSE REMEDY REF.
1. CHECKING ELECTRICAL TROUBLES (Contd.)
1. Alternator inoperative. 1. Service alternator as
at (c) above.
2. Faulty regulator. 2. Replace control box.
3. Short circuits. 3. Test cables for shorts.
4. Drive belt loose or broken. 4. Tighten or replace belt.
5. Alternator fuse diffused. 5. Check and replace.
1. Loose mountings. 1. Tighten mounting bolts.
2. Loose pulley. 2. Tighten pulley.
3. Worn bearings. 3. Install new bearings.
4. Internal damage. 4. Repair or replace.
1. Intermittent shorts or loose 1. Test for short circuits,
connections. and tighten connections.
2. Alternator defective. 2. Service alternator as at
(c) above.
3. Defective regulator. 3. Replace regulator.
4. Alternator drive belt loose. 4. Adjust belt if necessary,
replace.
5. Surging of engine speed. 5. Adjust engine speed
setting.
6. Slip ring dirty 5. Clean.
Test lamp connect to ‘F’ and -ve
of Alternator.
1. If the bulb now lights the 1. Replace Regulator.
cause is faulty regulator. If the
bulb does not lights ground ‘A
terminal of the Alternator.
2. If the bulb lights, now brush
lead the causes are.
a) Jammed brushes or brush lead Free brushes replace if
adrift. necessary.
b) Dirty slipring Clean the slip ring.
c) Rotor open circuit Check that the ends of
the rotor winding are
soldered properly to
slipring terminals. Re
solder the windings if
open or replace the rotor.
3. Charge indicator
continuous
glows with
engine
operating at
governed speed
4. Alternator noisy
5. Flickering
of charger
system rapidly
with the engine
operating at
governed speed
6. Charge indicator
does not appear
when starter
switch is on
