Usage Features

The DUC101 is designed for user-friendly operation. Before use, users must ensure the battery cartridge is charged and correctly installed. The saw chain and guide bar must be properly assembled, and the chain tension checked. The saw chain tension is automatically adjusted by turning the lever counterclockwise slightly to loosen the sprocket cover, then turning it clockwise to secure the cover. The oil tank needs to be filled with appropriate saw chain oil; the oil inspection window allows users to monitor the oil level. When filling the oil, the button on the oil tank cap is pushed to release it, then the cap is turned to remove it. After filling, the cap is screwed back firmly.

For cutting, the tool should be held firmly with both hands, ensuring proper footing and balance. The root of the guide bar and the support part of the tool body should be in contact with the branch to be cut before starting the tool. The tool is then moved down along the branch to saw it. It's crucial to keep all body parts away from the saw chain during operation. The tool also features an overload protection system that automatically stops the motor if it detects an abnormally high current, preventing damage. Overheat protection is also integrated, stopping the tool if the battery or tool temperature becomes too high.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is essential for the longevity and safe operation of the DUC101.

  • Inspection: The whole tool should be inspected before operation, every day, every week, every 3 months, annually, and before storage. This includes checking for damage, wear, and proper function of all components.
  • Cleaning: The tool should be cleaned regularly, especially the sprocket cover, guide bar groove, and oil discharge hole, to prevent sawdust and chips from impairing performance.
  • Saw Chain Maintenance: The saw chain needs to be sharpened when dull. The sharpening angle for the cutting edge is 30°, and the file should engage the cutter on the forward stroke. The chain gauge should also be checked. A dull chain can lead to increased kickback and poor cutting performance.
  • Guide Bar Maintenance: The guide bar groove should be cleaned regularly to ensure proper oil flow and prevent chips from accumulating. The guide bar should also be flipped periodically to ensure even wear.
  • Oil Tank Cap: The oil tank cap should be checked for tightness regularly.
  • Sprocket: The sprocket should be inspected for wear. A worn sprocket should be replaced to prevent damage to the new saw chain.
  • Chain Lubrication: The oil feed rate should be checked to ensure the saw chain is adequately lubricated during operation.
  • Lock-off Lever and Switch Trigger: These components should be inspected for proper function.
  • Screws and Nuts: All screws and nuts should be inspected for tightness.

If any issues arise that are not covered in the manual, users are advised to contact a Makita Authorized Service Center for repairs, using genuine Makita replacement parts. The tool is equipped with a battery protection system that monitors battery status and prevents over-discharge, over-heating, and over-current.
