Overview

The Makita HM0810B is a demolition hammer designed for heavy-duty chipping, scaling, and demolition tasks. This tool is built with double insulation, enhancing user safety by eliminating the need for a grounded power supply system.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Makita HM0810B is to deliver powerful blows for breaking concrete, removing tiles, chiseling, and other similar applications. It operates by generating rapid hammering actions, which are transmitted to a bit (such as a bull point, cold chisel, or scaling chisel) to break down materials. The tool is designed for continuous operation, with a switch trigger that can be locked in the "ON" position for extended use, reducing operator fatigue.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: HM0810B
  • Blows per minute: 2,900
  • Overall length: 433 mm (17-1/32")
  • Net weight: 5.3 kg (11.7 lbs)
  • Insulation: Double Insulation
  • Power Source: Electric (120V, with specific ampere ratings and cord length recommendations provided in the manual for optimal performance and safety).

Usage Features:

  • Switch Action: The tool is started by pulling the switch trigger and stopped by releasing it. For continuous operation, the switch trigger can be pulled and then the lock button pushed in. To stop from the locked position, the switch trigger is pulled fully and then released. Users are cautioned to ensure the switch trigger actuates properly and returns to the "OFF" position before plugging in the tool. When using the lock-on feature, a firm grasp on the tool is essential.
  • Side Grip (Auxiliary Handle): The side grip is adjustable and can be swung to either side, allowing for easy handling in various positions. It is loosened by turning counterclockwise and tightened by turning clockwise. This feature enhances control and comfort during operation.
  • Bit Installation/Removal: Bits are installed by cleaning the bit shank, pressing in the tool retainer, turning it until red dots on the tool retainer and holder align, inserting the bit fully, and then turning the retainer 180 degrees to secure it. Removal is the reverse process. Users are advised to ensure the bit is securely in place before operation.
  • Operation: The tool should be held firmly with both hands. Applying slight pressure is recommended to prevent uncontrolled bouncing, as pressing too hard will not increase efficiency.
  • Safety Features:
    • Double Insulation: Equipped with a polarized plug, which fits into a polarized outlet only one way. If it doesn't fit, the plug should be reversed. This design eliminates the need for a grounded power cord.
    • Work Area Safety: Users are instructed to keep the work area clean and well lit, avoid operating in explosive atmospheres, and keep bystanders away.
    • Electrical Safety: Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces. Do not expose the tool to rain or wet conditions. The cord should not be abused (e.g., used to carry the tool, pulled from an outlet, or exposed to heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts). Damaged cords must be replaced immediately. When operating outdoors, use an outdoor extension cord marked "W-A" or "W".
    • Personal Safety: Stay alert, use common sense, and do not operate the tool while tired or under the influence. Dress properly, avoiding loose clothing or jewelry, and contain long hair. Always wear eye protection, a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, a hard hat, or hearing protection as appropriate. Remove adjusting keys or wrenches before turning the tool on. Maintain proper footing and balance.
    • Tool Use and Care Safety: Do not force the tool; use the correct tool for the application. Do not use the tool if the switch does not turn it on or off. Disconnect the plug from the power source before making adjustments, changing accessories, or storing the tool. Store idle tools out of reach of children.
    • Specific Hammer Safety Rules: Hold tools by insulated gripping surfaces to avoid electric shock if contacting hidden wiring. Wear ear protectors for extended use. Wear a hard hat, safety glasses, and/or face shield. Check screw tightness before operation, as vibration can loosen them. In cold weather, warm up the tool by operating it under no load to loosen lubrication. Always ensure firm footing, especially when working at height. Hold the tool firmly with both hands. Keep hands away from moving parts. Do not leave the tool running unattended. Do not point the tool at anyone during operation. Avoid touching the bit or nearby parts immediately after operation, as they can be extremely hot. Take caution to prevent dust inhalation and skin contact, as some materials may contain toxic chemicals.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Maintenance: Always ensure the tool is switched off and unplugged before performing any inspection or maintenance. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Check for misalignment, binding, or breakage of parts, and have damaged tools serviced before use.
  • Carbon Brush Replacement: The motor will automatically shut off when the resin insulating tip inside the carbon brush is exposed to contact the commutator. Both carbon brushes should be replaced simultaneously with identical carbon brushes. To replace, remove the rear cover using a hex wrench, then remove the brush holder caps with a screwdriver, take out the worn brushes, insert new ones, and secure the caps.
  • Lubrication: This tool uses a grease-packed lubrication system and typically requires relubrication every 6 months by a Makita Authorized or Factory Service Center. If self-lubrication is necessary, warm up the tool for several minutes, then switch off and unplug. Remove the crank cap using a Makita lock nut wrench 35 (optional accessory). Rest the tool with the bit end pointing upwards to collect old grease. Wipe out old grease and replace with 30g (1 oz) of Makita genuine hammer grease. Overfilling can cause faulty hammering action or tool failure. Reinstall and tighten the crank cap.
  • Replacement Parts: When servicing, use only identical replacement parts. Follow instructions in the Maintenance section. Use of unauthorized parts or failure to follow instructions can create a risk of electric shock or injury.
  • Accessories: Makita recommends specific accessories for this model, including various bits (bull point, cold chisel, scaling chisel, clay spade, grooving chisel, rammer, bushing tool, ground rod adapter), safety goggles, hammer grease, bit grease, lock nut wrench 35, hex wrench, and a plastic carrying case. Using unrecommended accessories may pose a risk of injury.
