Required Safety Equipment
As a boat owner, you are responsible for supplying all legally required
safety equipment. Contact USCG for details pertaining to required safety
equipment, and consult local, state, and provincial authorities for any
additional applicable laws and regulations. For your convenience, the
following lists provide the minimum requirements for onboard safety
equipment.
Required Onboard Safety Equipment

Fire extinguisher

Horn
 Visual distress signal
 Throwable flotation device

Navigation lights

One PFD per person on board
Recommended Onboard Safety Equipment
 Anchor and anchor line
 Flashlight

Tow line

First aid kit
 Dock fenders
 Sunscreen lotion
 Boat hook
 Warm clothing

Oar or paddle

Rain gear
 Compass
 Extra food
 VHF radio
 Extra water
CAUTION
When on, in, or near water, ensure that children
wear PFDs at all times.
