() POWER SWITCH
Use this switch turn the unit on and off.
(6) TIMER SWITCH
TIMER: PLAY
By using a commercially available audio timer, this function
permits timer activated playback.
TIMER: REC
By using a commercially available audio timer, this function
allows you to carry out unattended recording.
OFF:
When the audio timer is not in use, set to this position.
@) EJECT BUTTON
Press
this
button
to
open
the
cassette
compartment.
CASSETTE IN INDICATOR
Lights
when
a
cassette
tape
is
correctly
loaded
into
the
cas-
sette
compartment.
@) ANTI REC INDICATOR
Lights when the safety tub of the cassette is broken. When
this indicator is lit, recording is not possible.
QMS (QUICK MUSIC SEARCH) BUTTON
Used to select the selection number for the Quick Music
Search function.
(11) AMS (AUTO MUSIC SCAN) BUTTON
When this button is pressed, the beginning of each selec-
tion is played back for about 10 seconds. Once the desired
selection is found, press the PLAY button. The deck will
enter normal play mode. When the Auto Music Scan func-
tion
is
activated,
“AMS”
is
displayed.
@2 BLANK SKIP BUTTON
When this button is pressed during playback, the tape will
be automatically advanced to the beginning of the next
selection when an unrecorded tape section of more than
. 10 seconds is present.
(3) DISPLAY
@® REC INDICATOR
Lights
while
the
deck
is
in
recording
or
rec
pause
mode.
REC LEVEL/OPERATION MODE DISPLAY
Displays the peak level from 0 to +12 dB in 1 dB step.
When the level is over +12 dB, the display does not
show the level but shows only “+dB”. This display
section also shows the variable operation modes
according the button settings: STOP, PLAY, FF (fast
forwarding), REW (fast rewinding), PAUS (pause),
RECP (rec pause), RECm (rec mute), Ams (AMS play)
or P-O1 to P-15 (QMS operation).

With
the
built-in
auto
tape
selector,
the
recording
bias,
equalization
and
optimum
recording
level,
and
playback
equalization
are
automatically
set
according
to
the
type
of
cassette
loaded.
NORMAL: For normal ferric oxide tapes.
CrOz:
For
chromium
dioxide
and
other
tapes
requiring
70
wS
equalization
and
high
bias.
METAL: For metal tapes.

The
METAL
indicator
is
lit
when
no
cassette
tape
is
loaded.
@ PEAK LEVEL METERS
The
left
and
right
peak
level
displays
accurately
follow
the
strength
of
music
signals.
Set
the
REC
LEVEL
con-
trol
so
that
the
peak
level
meters
do
not
travel
over
the
optimum
recording
level
indicator
which
appears
as
triangle
indicator
above
the
scale.
Occasional
flashes
are
acceptable,
but
if
the
signal
is
allowed
to
consis-
tently
illuminate
the
optimum
recording
level
zone
of
the
displays,
audible
distortion
will
occur.

MEMO

is

® COUNTER/TIME DISPLAY
Displays
either
tape
counter
reading
or
tape
running
time
according
to
the
COUNTER
MODE
button
set-
ting.
MAIN OPERATION BUTTONS
REC MUTE button:
Pressing
this
button
while
the
deck
is
in
the
record
mode
causes
a
4
second
blank
space
to
be
recorded,
after
which
the
deck
enters
the
rec
pause
mode.
