MPX
FILTER
SWITCH
To
record
FM
broadcasts
with
Dolby
NR,
press
this
switch
so
that
the
MPX-F
indicator
lights.
DOLBY
NR
SWITCHES
When
recording
using
Dolby
Noise
Reduction
or
playing
a
tape
recorded
using
Dolby
Noise
Reduction,
set
the
NR
switch
to
ON
and
select
the
B
or
C
NR
setting.
The
corres-
ponding
DOLBY-B
or
DOLBY-C
indicator
lights.
Dolby
noise
reduction
is
an
extremely
effective
method
of
reducing
un-
desirable
background
hiss
‘on
tapes.
This
unit
incorporates
both
Dolby
B
NR
and
the
newer
Dolby
C
NR
systems.
Dolby
C
NR
is
approximately
twice
as
effective
as
Dolby
B
NR
on
adB
basis.

RECORD
LEVEL
CONTROL
To
increase
the
recording
levels,
turn
the
knob
clockwise.
HX
PRO
BUTTON
To
activate
the
HX
PRO
dynamic
servo
system,
press
this
button
so
that
the
HX
PRO
indicator
lights.
The
Dolby
HX
PRO
system
monitors
the
total
amount
of
effective
bias
during
recording,
and
instantaneously
compensates
for
any
excess
bias
by
reducing
the
deck’s
bias
signal
level
accord-
ingly.
The
system
operates
independently
on
each
channel.
HX
PRO
is
not
a
noise
reduction
system
because
it
func-
tions
only
during
recording
and
no
decoding
is
required.
Therefore,
a
tape
recorded
with
the
HX
PRO
system
can
be
played
back
on
any
other
cassette
deck
while
retaining
the
benefits
of
HX
PRO.

RECORD
BALANCE
CONTROL
Used
to
balance
the
right
and
left
channels
of
the
recording
sound.
CALIBRATION
CONTROL
Since
the
recorded
signal
level
is
different
from
the
source
signal
level,
it
is
recommended
to
obtain
the
same
record-
ing
level
as
the
source
level
before
operating
the
REC
LEVEL
control.
With
this
adjustment,
you
can
compare
clearly
between
the
just
recorded
sound
and
source
sound.
1.
Tune
to
an
FM
station
of
sufficient
signal
strength.
2.
Press
the
REC
button.
The
peak
level
meter
will
function.
3.
To
monitor
the
source
signal
level,
press
the
SOURCE/
TAPE
switch
so
that
the
SOURCE
indicator
lights
and
note
the
peak
level.
4.
Press
the
SOURCE/TAPE
switch
so
that
the
TAPE
indicator
lights.
5.
Turn
the
CALIBRATION
control
to
obtain
the
same
level
as
the
peak
level
of
the
source
signal.
Turning
the
CALIBRATION
control
clockwise
increases
the
record-
ing
signal
level
and
turning
this
control
counterclockwise
decreases
the
recording
signal
level.

BIAS
CONTROL
Adjust
this
control
so
that
the
optimum
amount
of
bias
obtained
and
resulting
in
the
flat
frequency
response
according
to
the
characteristics
of
the
tape
to
be
used.
(Record
a
high
frequency
sound
or
the
interstation
noise
of
FM
broadcast
and
then
play
back.
Repeat
this
procedure
with
the
different
settings
of
the
BIAS
control
until
the
recorded
sound
can
be
played
back
as
close
as
possible
to
the
original.)
