Overview

The Mark-10 Series TT03 is a line of digital torque gauges designed for both handheld and test stand applications, offering precise measurement of torque for various materials and manufactured items such as springs, electronic components, fasteners, and mechanical assemblies.

Function Description:

The TT03 gauges measure torque in both clockwise and counter-clockwise directions. They feature a primary reading display for live measurements, peak readings for maximum observed clockwise and counter-clockwise values, and a load bar to visually indicate load and potential overload conditions. The gauges support multiple operating modes: Real Time (RT) for live readings, Peak Clockwise (PCW) for maximum clockwise readings, and Peak Counter-clockwise (PCCW) for maximum counter-clockwise readings. The primary reading in peak modes retains the peak value even if the actual load decreases, which can be reset by pressing the ZERO button.

The device includes set point indicators for pass/fail type testing, allowing users to define upper and lower load limits. Visual indicators on the display show whether the measured value is above the upper limit (NO GO HIGH), between the limits (GO), or below the lower limit (NO GO LOW).

Communication with external devices is facilitated via a micro USB port. The gauge can transmit current readings upon pressing the DATA key or in response to an ASCII command '?' from an external device. It supports configurable baud rates and data formats, including numeric values with or without units, and options to invert or omit polarity. The TT03 gauges are compatible with Mark-10's MESUR™gauge and MESUR™ Lite software for data acquisition and analysis.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Accuracy: ±0.5% of full scale.
  • Sampling Rate: 2,000 Hz.
  • Power: Operates on an 8.4V NiMH rechargeable battery or via an AC adapter. The battery fully charges in approximately 8 hours.
  • Battery Life: Up to 7 hours of continuous use with backlight on, and up to 24 hours with backlight off.
  • Measurement Units: Supports lbFin (Pound-inch), ozFin (Ounce-inch), kgFmm (Kilogram-millimeter), and Ncm (Newton-centimeter), depending on the model.
  • USB Output: Individual data point output, configurable up to 115,200 baud.
  • Safe Overload: 150% of full scale (display shows "OVER" at 110% and above). Overloading beyond 150% can damage the internal sensor.
  • Weight: 1.8 lb [0.8 kg].
  • Environmental Requirements: 40 - 100°F (4.4 - 37.8°C), max. 96% humidity, non-condensing.
  • Warranty: 3 years (refer to individual statement for details).
  • Included Accessories: Carrying case, AC adapter (with US, EU, or UK prong), battery, USB cable, and NIST-traceable certificate of calibration.

Usage Features:

  • User Interface: The gauge features a clear display with indicators for measurement direction, peak readings, primary reading, load bar, units, and mode. Navigation through menus is done using UP, DOWN, ENTER, ESCAPE, and DIRECTION keys.
  • Digital Filters: Provides digital filters to smooth out readings, useful in environments with mechanical interference. Filters can be applied to the current reading (peak capture rate) and displayed reading (primary reading), with settings from 1 (fastest) to 1024.
  • Set Point Configuration: Users can enable one or two set points (upper and lower limits) for pass/fail testing. The values can be adjusted, and the direction (clockwise/counter-clockwise) can be toggled.
  • Automatic Shutoff: The gauge can be configured to automatically power off after a period of inactivity (no key presses or load changes of 100 counts or less) when running on battery power. Settings range from 5 to 30 minutes in 5-minute increments. This feature is ignored if the AC adapter is plugged in.
  • Backlight Control: The backlight can be set to Off, On, or Auto. In Auto mode, the backlight turns off after a period of inactivity and turns back on when activity resumes. The inactivity period for auto-backlight is configurable from 1 to 10 minutes.
  • LCD Contrast Adjustment: The display contrast can be adjusted from 0 to 25.
  • Audible Tones: Tones can be enabled for key presses and alerts such as overload and set point value reached. Set point alerts can be momentary or continuous.
  • Initial Mode: Users can configure the default operating mode (Real Time, Peak Clockwise, or Peak Counter-clockwise) upon powering on the gauge.
  • Restore Default Settings: The device allows restoring factory default settings.

Maintenance Features:

  • Calibration: The TT03 can be calibrated at up to 10 points in each direction (clockwise and counter-clockwise). A recommended procedure involves mounting the sensor vertically, applying full-scale loads, and ensuring no load during offset calculation. It is recommended to calibrate at 5 or more even increments for optimal accuracy.
  • Battery Replacement: The battery is accessible by loosening two captive screws in the rear housing.
  • Safety: Users are advised to be fully trained in operation and safety procedures. The gauge should not be operated if damaged, kept away from liquids, and serviced only by trained technicians. A risk assessment should be performed before testing, and appropriate personal protective equipment (e.g., eye and face protection) should be worn, especially when testing brittle samples. Machine guarding systems are recommended for hazardous applications.
