Troubleshooting

To remove control panel housing:
Turn the smoker off and unplug
the smoker from power source.
Open the smoker door.
Remove the two screws
on each side of the control panel
housing and the five screws on the
bottom of the control panel housing.
Gently lift the control panel housing
and unplug all connectors.
To reassemble components:
Confirm the smoker is powered off
and not plugged into a power source.
Follow removal steps in reverse
order to reassemble smoker.
Tool needed for access: Phillips head screwdriver.
Controller Access Instructions
SYMPTOM CAUSE POSSIBLE SOLUTION
Custom smoke element light
not on but no smoke
Wrong smoke setting selected. Each custom smoke setting uses a different element
cycleing sequence. Each wood type will perform different
under each setting, change to a higher smoke setting.
Bad connection at custom smoke
element.
Unplug connection and reconnect. Reference custom
smoke element/probe access instructions.
Bad connection at custom smoke probe. Unplug connection and reconnect. Reference custom
smoke element/probe access instructions.
Faulty component Call Masterbuilt for replacement 1-800-489-1581.
Grill + Finish heating element
is not on but bottom heating
element light is on
Bad connection at Grill + Finish element. Unplug connection and reconnect. Reference Grill +
Finish element/probe/HTL access instructions.
Bad connection at Grill + Finish HTL
(High Temp Limit Safety Shut-Off).
Unplug connection and reconnect. Reference Grill +
Finish element/probe/HTL access instructions.
Bad connection at controller. Unplug connection and reconnect. Reference controller
access instructions.
Faulty component Call Masterbuilt for replacement 1-800-489-1581.
Main High-Temp Limit Safety Shutoff (HTL) Access Instructions

To access main HTL:
Turn the smoker off and unplug the smoker from
power source.
Remove the six (6) screws from main HTL access
panel and then remove panel and rubber gasket. Fig C1.
Carefully pull back silicon cover from female leads and
disconnect from male spades. Fig C2.
To reassemble components:
Confirm the smoker is powered off and not plugged into
a power source.
Follow removal steps in reverse order to reassemble smoker.
Tool needed for access: Phillips head screwdriver.
