USING THE SILENCE FEATURE
1. The FSA-25000 has a built in Silence feature. If cooking, or other non-hazardous sources cause the
alarm to sound, it can be temporarily silenced by pressing the Silence button. Before pressing,
ensure the source of the smoke is identified, and can be confirmed as safe.
2. The alarm then enters a dormant period, for up to 8 minutes (if the alarm condition remains
present.) The red light will be on.
3. After the dormant period, the smoke alarm resumes normal operation.
2. The smoke alarm begins ‘Nuisance Alarming.’
There are a number of reasons why a smoke alarm may sound. The very rst step, is to ensure there is no
danger - carefully check surrounds for any sign of re or smouldering material.
If your alarm is sounding for no apparent reason, consider the following:
(a) Is the alarm too close to an air vent? Often the rst time an air conditioner or heater is used for a while,
it will have gathered dust. This, blowing into the photoelectric chamber of the alarm, can cause nuisance
alarming.
(b) Tiny insects in the photoelectric chamber can cause nuisance alarming.
(c) Momentary spike in power supply.
Normally, once the alarm has recorded a fault, after a recalibration phase, it will resume normal operation.
Occasionally, for no apparent reason, the alarm may continue to sound continuously, or at random
intervals. If this is the case, you need to try a simple smoke alarm reset. Please see the video with reset
instructions on our website at http://www.matelecaustralia.com.au/electrical-accessories/sensors-and-

REPLACING THE BATTERY
The backup power for the FSA-25000 is supplied by a 9V. Under normal operating conditions the battery
should last for at least 12 months, however, it is strongly recommended batteries are changed no longer
than this period.
The alarm has a low battery audible beep, which will sound at 30-40 second intervals – replace the
battery immediately when this occurs.
The smoke alarm must be tested by pressing the test button whenever the batteries are replaced.
Use one of the following batteries for replacement:
TROUBLESHOOTING
The following are some simple guides to rectifying issues with your MATelec Smoke Alarm
1. The smoke alarm is intermittently ‘chirping.’
This means the battery is low, and needs replacing. MATelec Australia recommends smoke alarm batteries
are replaced every 12 months
3. The red LED is flashing continuously after installing a new battery. After replacing the battery, the
alarm may enter a calibration phase, with the red light continuously flashing, and possible
intermittent chirps. This can last for up to 10 minutes (usually much less.) The alarm should resume
normal operation, with the green light on, and the red light flashing intermittently after this time.
