Overview

The Matelec FSA-60000 is a 240Vac photoelectric smoke alarm with a 3V DC battery backup, designed for residential use. It is listed as an active fire device in Australia and is compatible with the FSA-50000 Wireless Interconnect module, which is sold separately.

Function Description:

The FSA-60000 functions as a photoelectric smoke alarm, detecting smoke particles to alert occupants of a potential fire. It operates on 220-240 V AC/50 Hz main power and includes a DC 3V CR17450 battery for backup, ensuring continuous operation during power outages. The alarm is designed to interconnect with up to 24 other alarms, either wired (up to 150m maximum) or wirelessly when equipped with the FSA-50000 module. When one interconnected alarm is triggered, all other interconnected alarms will also sound.

The device includes a test function, activated by pressing the TEST button for at least 5 seconds, which verifies the proper functioning of the electronic circuitry, buzzer, and battery. It also features a built-in Silence (HUSH) feature, allowing temporary silencing of the alarm for 10 minutes if triggered by non-hazardous sources like cooking smoke. After the 10-minute dormant period, the alarm automatically resumes normal operation.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Main Power Source: 220-240 V AC/50 Hz
  • Secondary Power Source: DC 3V battery (CR17450)
  • AC Operating Current: <100mA
  • Interconnecting: Max. 24 alarms (wired 150m maximum)
  • Operating Temperature: 0 °C to 40 °C
  • Ambient Humidity: ≤ 93%
  • Alarm Sensitivity: 0.118-0.169 dB/m
  • Alarm Volume: > 85dB(A) @ 3m
  • Sound Pattern: ISO8201 (BI 0.5s - pause 0.5s- BI 0.5s - pause 0.5s - BI 0.5s - pause 1.5s, with the RED LED flashing, repeating this alarm pattern)
  • Compliance: AS3786:2014

Usage Features:

  • Installation: Must be installed by a licensed electrician in accordance with Australian wiring rules. Optimal placement involves installing alarms as close to the center of the ceiling as possible, at least 30cm from walls, and at least 30cm from the ceiling if wall-mounted. For peaked or cathedral ceilings, the alarm must be at least 50cm from the apex.
  • Location Guidelines: Recommended locations include hallways outside sleeping areas, and inside and outside each sleeping area in multi-level dwellings or homes with multiple sleeping areas. Avoid installation in kitchens, garages, areas with humidity outside 10%-93%, temperatures below 0°C or above 40°C, within 1m of heating/cooling vents, insect-infested areas, dusty areas, or near fluorescent lights to prevent nuisance alarms.
  • Status Indicators:
    • Standby: Red LED flashes every 40 seconds (no Green LED).
    • AC Power: Green LED continuously illuminated.
    • Low Battery: Unit chirps, Red LED flashes every 40 seconds.
    • Self-test Fault: Red LED flashes twice every 40 seconds.
    • End-of-life: Unit chirps between two Red LED flashes (after 10 years of operation).
    • Test Function: Red LED flashes once per second with alarm sounding until TEST button is released.
    • Silence Function: Red LED flashes every 8 seconds.
    • Interconnection Alarm: Alarm sounds without Red LED flashing when another interconnected alarm is triggered.
  • Wireless Interconnect (with FSA-50000 module):
    • The FSA-50000 module allows both wired and wireless smoke detectors to be used in one installation. It is inserted into a dedicated slot in the FSA-60000.
    • Pairing: To pair alarms, press the TEST button of the first alarm (Master) three times within 2 seconds. Its Red LED will remain illuminated. Then, for each subsequent alarm, press its TEST button three times within 2 seconds; its Red LED will illuminate briefly, and it will emit a 0.5-second beep, indicating successful pairing. Finally, return to the Master alarm and press its TEST button for 1 second to complete the pairing process. All paired units will then flash their Red LED once every 40 seconds.
    • Clearing Network: To unpair an alarm, isolate power, remove the battery, press and hold the TEST button while reinserting the battery (Red LED illuminates for 3 seconds), release the TEST button, and then press it again within 2 seconds while the Red LED is illuminated. The alarm will beep once, and the Red LED will go out, indicating it is unpaired.
  • Emergency Plan: Users are advised to develop a fire escape plan, including identifying two quickest ways out of each room, an agreed outdoor meeting place, and practicing fire drills regularly.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement: The DC 3V CR17450 battery should be replaced when the low battery warning (chirping and Red LED flashing every 40 seconds) occurs. For wirelessly interconnected alarms, batteries should be replaced at a maximum of every 10 years.
  • Cleaning: If the alarm sounds falsely or has a fault warning, cleaning the smoke alarm is recommended. After cleaning, remove the battery, turn off AC power, wait 3 minutes, then reinstall the battery and turn on AC power.
  • Self-Test: Regular testing by pressing the TEST button is crucial to ensure proper operation. If a self-test fault warning exists but the alarm still sounds when the test button is pressed, the product can continue to be used, but weekly testing via the test button is necessary.
  • End-of-Life: The unit will indicate its end-of-life after 10 years of operation by chirping between two Red LED flashes, at which point the alarm must be replaced.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for issues such as no Green LED with AC power, no Red LED flash, alarm not sounding during test, low battery, fault warnings, false alarms, different alarm sounds, and interconnection problems. Solutions often involve checking connections, cleaning the unit, replacing the battery, or relocating the alarm.

Warranty:

The FSA-60000 smoke alarm is warranted for a period of 5 years against defects in materials or workmanship under normal use. For warranty issues, customers should contact their place of purchase and refer to the warranty card included with the package for full details.
