Do you have a question about the Matrix MAGNUM MG-405 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Matrix Magnum Series MG-405 Reverse Back Extension is a strength training machine designed for targeting the muscles of the lower back. This robust piece of equipment is built for commercial use, emphasizing durability, safety, and effective exercise.

Function Description:

The MG-405 Reverse Back Extension allows users to perform a reverse back extension exercise, which primarily targets the erector spinae muscles along the spine, as well as the glutes and hamstrings. The user positions themselves face down on the padded support, with their hips at the pivot point, and then lifts their legs against resistance to extend the back. This movement helps to strengthen the posterior chain, which is crucial for posture, spinal stability, and overall athletic performance. The machine is designed to provide a controlled and effective workout, minimizing the risk of injury while maximizing muscle engagement.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Maximum User Weight: 159 kg / 350 lbs. This indicates the maximum weight of an individual who can safely use the machine.
  • Maximum Training Weight: 82 kg / 180 lbs. This refers to the maximum amount of resistance the machine can provide during an exercise.
  • Product Weight: 134 kg / 295 lbs. This is the total weight of the machine itself, highlighting its sturdy construction.
  • Overall Dimensions (L x W x H): 150 x 109 x 145 cm / 59" x 43" x 57". These dimensions provide an understanding of the machine's footprint, which is important for facility planning and placement.
  • Weight Horn Diameter (Weight Plate Storage): 47.63 mm / 1.875". This specification indicates the size of the weight plate storage pegs, ensuring compatibility with standard Olympic weight plates.
  • Clearance Width: A minimum clearance width of 914 mm / 36" is recommended for access to and passage around Matrix strength equipment, ensuring safe operation and maintenance.

Usage Features:

The MG-405 incorporates several features to ensure proper and safe usage:

  • Adjustable Mechanisms: The machine likely includes adjustable seat pads, leg pads, foot pads, or range of motion adjustments to accommodate users of various body types and ensure a comfortable and effective starting position. Users are instructed to ensure these mechanisms are fully engaged to prevent unintentional movement and injury.
  • Weight Limits: Users must not exceed the specified maximum user weight or maximum training weight.
  • Controlled Movement: Emphasis is placed on performing exercises in a controlled manner and returning the weight to its fully-supported start position.
  • Spotter Recommendation: For strength training equipment, it is always recommended to use a spotter, although the MG-405's design may reduce the immediate need for one during the specific reverse back extension exercise.
  • Proper Positioning: Users are advised to sit on the bench (if applicable) and get into the appropriate position for the exercise before starting.
  • Progressive Overload: Users should exercise using no more weight than they can safely lift and control, gradually increasing resistance as strength improves.
  • Supervised Areas: The equipment is intended for use in supervised areas where access and control are regulated by the owner, who should consider a user's degree of reliability, age, and experience.
  • Stability: The machine is designed for stability, but manufacturer recommendations suggest securing all stationary Matrix strength equipment to the floor to prevent rocking or tipping over. This must be performed by a licensed contractor, with anchor points capable of withstanding 750 lbs. (3.3 kN) pull-out force.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the MG-405. A detailed maintenance checklist is provided:

  • Daily:
    • Clean Upholstery: Upholstery should be cleaned daily with a mild soap and water or a non-ammonia based cleaner.
    • Inspect Cables: Daily inspection of cables is required to check for wear or damage.
  • Monthly:
    • Clean Guide Rods: Guide rods should be cleaned monthly.
    • Inspect Hardware: Monthly inspection of all hardware is necessary to ensure components are secure and in good condition.
  • Bi-Annually:
    • Inspect Frame: The frame should be inspected bi-annually for any signs of damage or wear.
  • As Needed:
    • Clean Machine: The overall machine should be cleaned as needed.
    • Clean Grips: Grips should be cleaned as needed with a mild soap and water or a non-ammonia based cleaner.
    • Lubricate Guide Rods: Guide rods should be lubricated as needed with a Teflon-based lubricant. The lubricant should be applied to a cotton cloth and then rubbed up and down the guide rods.
  • General Maintenance Guidelines:
    • Damaged Parts: Do not use any equipment with damaged, worn, or broken parts. Only use replacement parts supplied by a local Matrix dealer.
    • Labels and Nameplates: Do not remove labels, as they contain important information. Replace any unreadable or missing labels by contacting a Matrix dealer.
    • Preventative Maintenance: Regular preventative maintenance is key to smooth operation and minimizing liability.
    • Qualified Personnel: Ensure that any person performing adjustments or maintenance is qualified to do so. Matrix dealers can provide service and maintenance training.
