Overview

The matt:e B60 is a single-phase Domestic Voltage Optimisation Unit designed for use in residential and light commercial/retail applications. Its primary function is to reduce the incoming supply voltage by 18V, meaning a 240V supply would be reduced to 222V. This unit is intended to be connected in series with the incoming supply, specifically between the main electricity meter for the dwelling and the consumer unit.

Usage Features:

The matt:e B60 unit offers subtractive performance, reducing the voltage by a fixed 18 volts. This can lead to energy savings by optimizing the voltage supplied to household appliances and electrical systems. The unit is designed for straightforward integration into existing electrical setups, being installed between the electricity meter and the main consumer unit.

Safety and Protection:

The B60 unit incorporates several built-in safety features:

  • Short Circuit Protection: Safeguards against excessive current flow due to short circuits.
  • Overload Protection: Prevents damage from drawing too much current.
  • Thermal Protection: The transformer within the unit is fitted with an embedded thermal switch. If the transformer's temperature exceeds acceptable levels, this switch will activate, automatically shutting off the supply to the transformer by "tripping" the incoming MCB (CP1). Once the transformer temperature returns to a safe level, the thermal switch resets, and the MCB can be closed.
  • Integrated MCB: The unit is supplied with a 63 Amp miniature circuit breaker, providing both overload and short circuit protection specifically for the unit itself.

Installation Requirements:

  • Competent Person: Installation must be carried out by a competent person in accordance with the IEE Wiring Regulations, BS7671 (17th Edition or later), and current Building Regulations.
  • Isolation of Supply: It is crucial to ensure the electrical supply is disconnected before commencing installation or removing the cover of the B60 unit.
  • Location: The unit must be installed in a dry, clean, and well-ventilated location. It should never be covered, and its ventilation must not be restricted.
  • Weight: Due to its weight (approximately 10.0 kgs), the unit should always be handled with both hands during installation.
  • Wiring: User wiring connections are clearly indicated in the provided diagrams. Upon completion of installation, the tightness of all electrical connections must be checked.

Maintenance Features:

  • Thermal Reset: The integrated thermal switch provides a self-resetting mechanism for overheating, reducing the need for manual intervention in such events.
  • Warranty: The B60 Domestic Voltage Optimisation Unit comes with a standard 12-month warranty from the date of purchase. This warranty can be extended to 5 years by recording the serial number on the enclosed Warranty Card and returning it with proof of purchase. The warranty is limited to the replacement of faulty components only.
