1.0 Introduction
TheseinstructionsprovidesafetyandinstallationinstructionsforUL
ListedMaxeonphotovoltaic(PV)modulesthathavetheULlogoonthe
productlabel:
1.1DisclaimerofLiability
Theinstallationtechniques,handling,anduseofthisproductarebeyond
companycontrol.Therefore,Maxeonassumesnoresponsibilityforloss,damage
orexpenseresultingfromimproperinstallation,handling,oruse.
1.2UnderwritersLaboratories(UL)ListingInformation
ThisproductmeetsorexceedstherequirementssetforthbyUL61730andUL
61215.TheseStandardscoverflat‐platePVmodulesandpanelsintendedfor
installationonbuildingsorthoseintendedtobefreestanding.Tosatisfythe
Listingforthisproductthemodulesmustbemountedwitharackor
standoff
structure.TheListingdoesnotincludeintegrationintoabuildingsurfacebecause
additionalrequirementsmayapply.Thisproductisnotintendedforus ewhere
artificiallyconcentratedsunlightisappliedtothemodule.
1.3LimitedWarranty
ModulelimitedwarrantiesaredescribedinfullintheMaxeonwarranty
certificatesobtainableatwww.sunpower.maxeon.com.Insummary,theLimited
Warrantiesdonotapplytoanyofthefollowing:
PVModulessubjectedto:(i)misuse,abuse,neglectoraccident;(ii)alterationor
improper installation (improper installation includes, without limitation,
installation that does not comply with all Maxeon installation instructions and
operations and maintenance instructions of any type, asmay beamended and
updated from time totime at Maxeon’s sole discretion, and all national, state,
andlocallaws,codes,ordinances,andregulations);(iii)repairormodificationby
someone otherthan anapproved service technician of Maxeon; (iv) conditions
exceeding the voltage, wind, snow load, and any other operational
specifications; (v) power failure or surges; (vi) indirect or direct damage from
lightning,flood,fireorotheractsofnature;(vii)damagefrompersons,biological
activity, or industrial chemical exposure; or (viii) damage from impact or other
eventsoutsideMaxeon’scontrol.

2.0 SafetyPrecautions
Beforeinstallingthisproduct,readallsafetyinstructionsinthisdocument.
AllinstallationsmustbeperformedincompliancewiththeNationalElectrical
Code(NEC)andanyapplicablelocalcodes.
ModulescertifiedtoUL61730areSafetyClass2forprotectionagainst
electricshock
Therearenouser‐serviceablepartswithinthemodule.Donotattemptto
repairanypart
ofthemodule.
Installationshouldbeperformedonlybyqualifiedpersonnel.
Donotstandon,drop,scratch,orallowobjectstofallonmodulesasdoingso
maydamagethemandvoidthewarranty.
Donotplaceanythingonthemodules,evenforamomentbecauseresulting
residuemaydamageorstaintheglasssurface.
Ifthefrontglassisbroken,orthebacksheetistorn,contactwithanymodule
surfaceormoduleframecancauseelectricshock.
Damagedmodulesshould
beimmediatelydisconnectedfromtheelectricsystem.Themoduleshould
beremovedfromarrayassoonaspossibleandcontactthesupplierfor
disposalinstructions.
BrokenJ‐boxesorconnectorsareelectricalhazardsaswellaslaceration
hazards.Installersshouldremoveanysuchmodulefromthearray
and
contactMaxeonfordisposalinstructions.
Donotinstallorhandlethemoduleswhentheyarewetorduringperiodsof
highwind.
Donotblockdrainholesorallowwatertopoolinornearmoduleframes.
Maxeonrecommendsaconservativemi nimumcablebendradiusof
equalto
orgreaterthan
40mm(1.5”).
Unconnectedconnectorsmustalwaysbeprotectedfrompollution(e.gdust,
humidity,foreignparticles,etc),priortoinstallation.Donotleave
unconnected(unprotected)connectorsexposedtotheenvironment.Aclean
assemblyenvironmentisthereforeessentialtoavoidperformance
degradation.
Do not allow the connectors to come in
contact with chemicals such as
greases,oilsandorganicsolventswhichmaycausestresscracking.
Do not disconnect any modules when its inverter is feeding in to the grid.
Switchofftheinverterbeforedisconnecting,reinstallingormakinganyaction
withthemodules.
For connectors, whichare accessible
to untrained people,it is imperativeto
use the lockingconnectors andsafety clips, if applicable, inorder to defend
againstuntrainedpersonneldisconnectingthemodulesoncetheyhavebeen
installed.
Cover all modules in the PV array with an opaque cloth or material before
makingorbreakingelectricalconne ctions.
As the modules bend under the load, do not mount sharp objects (e.g.
screws)nearthemodulebackside.
Donotmountrailsunderthejunctionboxes
Donotattachoradhereitemsatthebacksheetofthemodules.
ContactMaxeonifmaintenanceisnecessary.

2.1FireRating
ThemodulefireratingisType2perUL1703,2013edition.Firerating
classificationforanyPVsystemusingUL1703:2013canonlyestablishafirerating
incombinationwiththemountingsystemratingsnormallyfoundinthemounting
systeminstallationinstructions.
3.0 ElectricalCharacteristics
ElectricalcharacteristicsofthemodulesaredescribedinTable1below.Rated
electricalcharacteristicsarewithin10percentofmeasuredvaluesatStandard
TestConditionsof:1000W/m2,25°Ccelltemperatureandsolarspectral
DANGER!Moduleinterconnectioncablespassdirectcurrent(dc)and
aresourcesofvoltagewhenthemoduleisunderloadandwhenitis
exposedtolight.Directcurrentcanarcacrossgapsandmaycause
injuryordeathifimproperconnectionordisconnectionismade;or
ifcontactismadewithmoduleleadsthatarefrayedortorn.Donot
connectordisconnectmoduleswhenacurrentsourceisenergizing
theconductors.Modulesmaycontainhighvoltagewhen
interconnectedwithothermodules.
IMPORTANT!Pleasereadtheseinstructionsintheirentiretybefore
installing,wiring,orusingthisproductinanyway.Failuretocomply
withtheseinstructionswillinvalidatetheMaxeonLimitedWarranty
forPVModules.
