Sealed enclosures offer a range of performance
proles depending on the internal air volume.
Larger enclosures will have a smoother more
extended response while a small enclosure
will have increased output in a more focused
frequency range. Sealed enclosures are the
simplest to construct but do require that the box
be completely air tight.
Use 3/4” MDF
Make sure the woofer mounting panel is
full width and height
Glue all mating surfaces
Use wood screws
Use silicone caulk on all internal joints
The internal volume of the
enclosure must be determined
to insure proper performance.
Simply measure height, width and
depth of enclosure you intend
to build. Subtract the material
thickness. Multiply these numbers
and divide by 1728 to get the
volume in cubic feet.
For enclosures with an angled
panel, measure the larger and
smaller depths, add these
together and divide by two. Use
this averaged depth.

CAUTION
Always consider consulting a professional audio installer
before installing new subwoofers. High power audio
systems have the ability create sound levels above 130dB.
Extended exposure to high sound pressure levels can
cause hearing damage.
Always run any new wiring through safe areas that wont
interfere with the normal operation of the vehicle.
Congratulations on your choice of a MB Quart subwoofer.

It’s a good idea to conrm that you have purchased the
correct size subwoofers to t your vehicle. If you have any
reservations about being able to complete the installation
yourself, we recommend contacting a professional. Be careful
as you go. Always disconnect the negative battery terminal
before starting any electrical work on the vehicle.

Overview

This document serves as a Quick Start Installation Guide for MB Quart subwoofers, specifically the FW1-254 and FW1-304 models. It provides essential information to help users install and begin using their subwoofer for music playback.

Function Description

The MB Quart subwoofer is designed to enhance the bass frequencies in a vehicle's audio system, providing a richer and more immersive listening experience. It functions by reproducing low-frequency sounds that smaller speakers might struggle with, adding depth and impact to music. The guide emphasizes that this subwoofer is specifically designed to perform optimally in small sealed enclosures, which simplifies the construction process for users.

Usage Features

Installation and Setup: The guide begins by advising users to confirm they have the correct size subwoofer for their vehicle. If there are any doubts about completing the installation, professional assistance is recommended. A crucial safety step before any electrical work is to disconnect the negative battery terminal.

Enclosure Types: The subwoofer is primarily designed for use in sealed enclosures. These enclosures offer various performance profiles depending on their internal air volume. Larger sealed enclosures provide a smoother, more extended bass response, while smaller ones deliver increased output in a more focused frequency range. Sealed enclosures are the simplest to construct but must be completely air-tight to function correctly. The guide explicitly states that vented designs are NOT recommended for this subwoofer.

Enclosure Construction: For optimal performance, the enclosure should be constructed using 3/4" MDF. The woofer mounting panel must be the full width and height of the enclosure. All mating surfaces should be glued, and wood screws should be used for assembly. To ensure an airtight seal, silicone caulk should be applied to all internal joints.

Volume Calculation: Determining the correct internal volume of the enclosure is critical for proper performance. Users are instructed to measure the height, width, and depth of the intended enclosure, subtract the material thickness, multiply these numbers, and then divide by 1728 to get the volume in cubic feet. For enclosures with an angled panel, the average of the larger and smaller depths should be used in the calculation.

Wiring Connections: The subwoofer features push-and-insert type terminals for easy wiring. Users need to strip back 1/2" of wire insulation, push down on the terminal, insert the wire, and then release.

Crossovers: A Low Pass Filter (LPF) is essential for proper operation. This filter allows only bass frequencies to reach the woofer, ensuring a natural transition to higher-frequency drivers in the audio system. Users should consult their amplifier's manual for specific LPF settings.

Subsonic Filter: The guide recommends using an electronic subsonic filter. This feature helps protect the woofer from extreme low-frequency distortion. Many amplifiers include this type of filter, and users should check their amplifier's manual for details on its use.

Wiring Configurations: Depending on the number of woofers used, various wiring configurations can be employed to achieve the best impedance load for the system. The guide provides examples of common configurations (e.g., 8Ω, 2.7Ω, 2Ω) and advises users to consult their amplifier's manual for specific recommendations.

Maintenance Features

While the guide does not explicitly detail maintenance features, it implies that proper installation and construction are key to the longevity and performance of the subwoofer. Ensuring an airtight sealed enclosure and using recommended materials (3/4" MDF, glue, wood screws, silicone caulk) contributes to the device's durability. The warranty information also suggests that proper installation and use are necessary to maintain coverage for defects in material and workmanship. Any issues arising from improper installation or use would likely fall outside the scope of the warranty. The emphasis on consulting professional installers for complex setups also suggests that correct initial installation is a form of preventative maintenance.
