Regular maintenance is essential for safe and efficient operation. The tractor should be kept free of dirt and chaff to prevent engine damage or overheating, and brake operation should be checked.
The manual recommends cleaning the air screen, air filter, and engine cooling fins regularly. The spark plug and fuel filter also require periodic replacement. The battery should be charged if its voltage drops below 12.4 Volts. The muffler should be inspected every 50 hours of operation or six months for signs of damage.
For cleaning the tractor, compressed air or a leaf blower is recommended to remove grass, leaves, and trash. Using a garden hose or pressure washer is not advised unless the engine and transmission are covered, as water can shorten the machine's useful life. The steering plate should be cleaned of debris to prevent restriction of clutch/brake pedal shaft movement.
At the end of the mowing season, the entire machine, especially the cutting unit cover, should be cleaned. Chipped paint surfaces should be touched up to prevent corrosion. The engine oil should be changed, and the fuel tank drained by running the engine until it runs out of fuel.
