Overview

The McQuay Auto-changeover Electronic Thermostat (Part No. 668375401, LIA266) is a sophisticated control device designed for 2-stage heat and 2-stage cool systems. This hardwired thermostat offers both auto and manual changeover capabilities, making it versatile for various HVAC applications, particularly McQuay WSHP (Water Source Heat Pump) units.

Function Description:

The thermostat's primary function is to regulate room temperature by controlling heating and cooling systems. It operates as a two-stage heat, two-stage cool thermostat, activating the first stage of heating when the room temperature falls below the heat set temperature (by a configurable differential) and the second stage if the temperature continues to drop. Similarly, for cooling, it activates the first stage when the room temperature exceeds the cool set temperature (by a configurable differential) and the second stage if the temperature continues to rise. The heat and cool outputs can be configured to stage off independently or simultaneously.

It supports multiple operating modes:

  • OFF Mode: In this mode, the thermostat will not activate heating or cooling devices. It is also used to enter the configuration setup.
  • Heat Mode: The thermostat controls only the heating system.
  • Cool Mode: The thermostat controls only the cooling system.
  • Auto-changeover Mode: The thermostat automatically switches between heating and cooling modes as needed to maintain the desired temperature range. In this mode, users can view and adjust both heat and cool set temperatures.

The indoor fan can be manually activated in any operating mode using the Fan switch (Auto/On).

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Electrical Rating: 24 VAC/VDC (18-30 VAC/VDC). It is crucial not to use this thermostat on voltages over 30 VAC/VDC to prevent damage and voiding the warranty.
  • Maximum Total Load: 4 amps.
  • Maximum Per Terminal: 1 amp.
  • Temperature Control Range: 45°F to 90°F (7°C to 32°C).
  • Accuracy: ± 1°F (± 0.5°C).
  • System Configurations: Supports 2-stage heat and 2-stage cool systems.
  • Backlight Operation: The display backlight remains on for 13 seconds after a mode change or button press.
  • Terminations: -C, +R, W1, Y1, W2, Y2, G, O, S1, S2. These terminals are used for common, hot, 1st stage heat, 1st stage cool, 2nd stage heat, 2nd stage cooling, fan, override, and remote sensor connections, respectively.
  • Remote Sensor: Optional, requires McQuay Remote Sensor Part Number 667720401. If a remote sensor is used, the main sensor (R12) on the thermostat's circuit board must be disabled by cutting it. Shielded wire must be used for remote sensor connections, and it should not be run in conduit with other wires.

Usage Features:

  • Configurable: The thermostat offers a comprehensive configuration mode to tailor its operation to specific HVAC systems. Settings include:
    • Heat Pump and Non Heat Pump configuration.
    • Heat Source (set to "g" for McQuay WSHP, PTAC, PTHP, and UV units).
    • Temperature Scale (Fahrenheit or Celsius).
    • 1st Stage Temperature Differential (1°F to 3°F / 0.5°C to 1.5°C).
    • 2nd Stage Temperature Differential (1°F to 6°F / 0.5°C to 3.0°C).
    • Minimum Deadband (2°F to 9°F / 1.0°C to 4.5°C) for Auto Changeover Mode.
    • Staged Off Outputs (independent or simultaneous staging off for heating and cooling).
    • Minimum Cool Setpoint (45°F to 75°F / 7°C to 24.0°C).
    • Maximum Heat Setpoint (55°F to 90°F / 13°C to 32°C).
    • Room Temperature Offset (+9°F to -9°F / +4.5°C to -4.5°C) for calibration.
    • Maximum Compressor Cycles Allowed Per Hour (configurable or unlimited).
    • Status Indicator Light (Lt 0, 1, 2) to indicate heating/cooling stages or off.
  • Backlit Display: Provides clear visibility of settings and room temperature, especially in low-light conditions.
  • Status Indicator Light: A red light indicates a heating cycle, and a green light indicates a cooling cycle. Its operation can be configured to show activity for the first or second stage, or to remain off.
  • Night Set-Back Override: Pressing the Up and Down buttons simultaneously for 2 seconds activates a night set-back override, displaying "Or" on the screen.
  • Fan Switch: Allows manual control of the indoor fan (Auto/On).
  • Reset Function: Pressing the Up and Down buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds resets the control board, displaying "-5" on the screen. This also refreshes the display and resets anti-short cycle timing.

Maintenance Features:

  • Field Temperature Calibration: The room temperature offset setting allows for calibration of the displayed room temperature to match the actual room temperature, ensuring accurate readings.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting section to address common issues such as no display, fan not operating correctly, frequent cycling, continuous fan operation, incorrect room temperature readings, "ROOM" or "Er" displays, and status indicator issues.
  • Reset Button: A physical reset button (SW10) is available on the thermostat's circuit board. Pressing it once refreshes the display and resets the anti-short cycle timing to zero, which can be useful for troubleshooting.

Installation Considerations:

  • Installation must conform to local and national electrical and building codes.
  • The thermostat should be mounted approximately five feet above the floor, avoiding outside walls, direct sunlight, behind doors, or areas affected by vents or ducts.
  • Always turn off power at the main supply before installation, cleaning, or removal.
  • Do not short across system control terminals to test operation, as this will damage the thermostat and void the warranty.
  • The hole for wires behind the thermostat should be sealed with non-flammable insulation or putty.

The McQuay Auto-changeover Electronic Thermostat is designed for reliable and precise temperature control in commercial and industrial HVAC systems, offering flexibility through its configurable settings and user-friendly interface.
