Loading and stowing
i Mercedes–Benz roof rackshavebeenspe-
cially developed and tested according to
Mercedes-Benz standards. Theseroof racks
conformtoDIN standard 75302 and are addi-
tionally subjected to crash and durabilitytests.
! Mercedes-Benz recommends thatyou only
useroofracks that have been tested andap-
proved for useonMercedes-Benz vehicles.
These helptoprevent vehicledamage.
Load theroof rackinsuchaway that the vehicle
is not damaged andwillnot be damaged during
the journey.

If it is not securedcorrectly, aroof rack or
theroofload could comeloose fromthe ve-
hicleand cause an accident. Follow the
manufacturer's installation instructions
when using roof racks.
Theroofloadraisesthe vehicle's centre of
gravityand therefore changes thedriving
characteristics. Please note the maximum
roof loads (
= page 244). Always adapt your
drivingstyletothe current road, trafficand
weather conditions and drivewith particular
carewhenyou have aloadonthe roof.

Vehicle occupants couldotherwise be in-
jured by the loadinthe event of sharp brak-
ing, asudden changeofdirection, or an
accident. Thisalso appliesfor seats which
have been removed.

Even if youfollow allloading guidelines, the
loadincreasesthe risk of injury in theevent
of an accident.

Keep the tailgate closed when driving. Oth-
erwise, exhaust fumescould enterthe vehi-
cle interiorand poison you.
