What to do if Mercury 1.7 MI Engine will not start?
- AAdrian JamesAug 14, 2025
If your Mercury Engine won't start, there are several potential causes and solutions: * Check the lanyard stop switch. * Ensure you are following the correct starting procedure. * Verify the fuel tank isn't empty and the fuel shut-off valve is open. * Replace clogged fuel filters. * Drain the tank and fill with fresh fuel if the fuel is stale or contaminated. * Replace any kinked fuel lines or clear any obstructions in the fuel line or tank vent line using compressed air. * Purge the fuel injection system if there is air in it. * Check wire connections. * Test, repair, or replace components of the glow-plug system, if equipped.
