• Visually check power steering fittings and hoses for leaks or signs of
damage. Check tie bar fasteners (multiple outboard rigs) for proper
tightness.
• Check propeller blades for damage.
AFTER EACH USE
• Flush out the outboard cooling system if operating in salt or polluted
water. Refer to Flushing the Cooling System.
• Wash off all salt deposits and flush out the exhaust outlet of the propeller
and gearcase with fresh water if operating in saltwater.
EVERY 100 HOURS OF USE OR ONCE YEARLY, WHICHEVER
OCCURS FIRST
• Change the engine oil and replace the oil filter. The oil should be changed
more often when the engine is operated under adverse conditions such as
extended trolling. Refer to Changing Engine Oil.
• Inspect the hoses for cracks, chafe, and leaks. Replace as necessary.
• Check the outboard for tightness to the boat transom. If any looseness of
the outboard or mounting fasteners exists, tighten the outboard mounting
fasteners to 75 Nm (55 lb‑ft). This item should be serviced by an
authorized dealer.
•
Remove the in‑line fuel filter sleeve. Refer to In‑line Fuel Filter Sleeve
Removal.
• Check the accessory drive belt.
• Inspect the front engine mounts (350 only). This item should be serviced
by an authorized dealer.
• Inspect the thermostat for corrosion and for a broken spring. Verify the
thermostat closes completely at room temperature. This item should be
serviced by an authorized dealer.
•
Replace the vessel mounted fuel filter. Refer to Vessel Mounted Water
Separating Fuel Filter.
• Check corrosion control anodes. Check more frequently when used in
saltwater. Refer to Corrosion Control Anodes.
•
Drain and replace gearcase lubricant. Refer to Gearcase Lubrication.
•
Check power steering fluid. Refer to Checking Power Steering Fluid.
•
Inspect battery. Refer to Battery Inspection.
• Saltwater usage: Remove and inspect spark plugs for corrosion and
replace spark plugs as necessary. Apply Anti‑Seize Compound only on
the threads of the spark plug prior to installation. Refer to Spark Plug
Inspection and Replacement.
