What to do if my Mercury 520 Bravo Sterndrive engine will not crank?
- CChad GonzalesAug 7, 2025
If your Mercury Boating Equipment engine won't crank, start by checking if the battery switch is turned "ON." Ensure the gearshift is in the neutral position. Inspect the circuit breaker or fuse and reset or replace if necessary. Examine all electrical connections and wires, paying special attention to the battery cables; clean and tighten any faulty connections. Test the battery and starter, replacing them if defective. Confirm if the flywheel ring gear is damaged and replace the flywheel if needed. Check if the engine can be rotated by hand with the spark plugs removed; if not, determine the cause. Finally, test the ignition switch.
