a looser feel and enhanced power clip expression. To further bolster its stage-ready resume, we’ve added a Channel Independent
SOLO™ Feature, a long-spring tank for the all-tube Reverb, the complete set of Voicing Choices from our CabClone™ with the addition
of the VINTAGE voicing mode to its on-board DI Output and an upgraded Footswitch for access to the new footswitchable choices.
To round out the two-Channel, six Mode preamp and mighty sounding but easy to carry power section, the MARK FIVE: 35 is available
as both a 19” traditional “Boogie™ size” Head and a portable 1x12 Combo. The Head can sit atop a number of MESA® and traditional
Boogie Extension cabinets and the Combo can be coupled with an additional Extension as well for greater coverage.
Overview: Front Panel
INPUT
This is the amplifier’s INPUT and your guitar, when connected here, using hopefully a shielded, low capacitance Instru-
ment cable of good quality will feed the MARK FIVE’s preamp and subsequent power section. It can handle virtually any instruments
pickups with the only cautionary thought being pickups that are very hot may compromise your ability to get the maximum clean
headroom out of the amplifier in the top GREEN Channel’s CLEAN and FAT Modes due to clipping at the Input stage. It will not hurt
the amplifier, but it will prevent you getting the optimum clean performance from those two Modes.
FS (Channel Select) Mini Toggle
This 3-position Channel Select mini toggle selects the Channels and provides two ways to
access them, via the amplifier’s Front Panel when the Footswitch is not connected, or via the Footswitch when it IS connected to the
DIN jack on the left of the Rear Panel.
The upper position (toggle up) selects (the top) Channel 1 when the Footswitch is not connected.
The center position (toggle center) enables you to select the Channels via the MARK FIVE: 35 Footswitch.
The lower (toggle down) position selects Channel 2 when the Footswitch is not connected.
The Channel Indicating LED changes Color and tracks the Channel that is called up; GREEN for Channel 1, RED for Channel 2.
NOTE: The Channel Select mini toggle must be in the center FS position for the MARK FIVE: 35 Footswitch to operate properly and
control the Channels, 5 Band Graphic EQ and Channel Independent SOLO Feature.
THE PREAMP
CHANNEL 1
This Channel incorporates our best two Clean Modes ever, CLEAN and FAT from the MARK FIVE. These Modes
offer two musically useful flavors of this sparkling low gain voice that benefit from 35 years of continuous refinement and take Clean
sounds to a dynamic, new touch-sensitive plateau. A third “crossover” Mode CRUNCH is also showcased here in Channel 1 and
again, it’s taken directly from the acclaimed MARK FIVE.
The CRUNCH Mode, delivered courtesy of Channel 2 in the big FIVE, covers the mid-gain ground between Clean and mildly overdriven
and ultimately, with this power section, on up to the higher gain sounds of its namesake. CRUNCH by itself is worthy of—and delivers
more than—most stand-alone amplifiers. It roams the many subtle transition zones between clean, mildly pushed and fully saturated
with finesse and offers an expressive, touch sensitive palette with broad stylistic boundaries. Play the Blues with howling overdrive,
grind away on aggressive Chunking Rhythm or rip through Lead work with more layers of smoldering gain... CRUNCH is up for it all
and then some. Also, here in the FIVE: 35, CRUNCH is enhanced by the ability to blend in more power section clip at lower volumes
by using the 10 or 25 WATT Power Mode Selections. The EL84s accentuated top end harmonic content adds a nice openness to
lower GAIN settings and Brit-voiced shred to the higher GAIN range, making CRUNCH even more applicable and valuable. You will
likely find it, as many have, one of the most useful Modes of all in this MARK’s arsenal.
Channel 1 in the MARK FIVE: 35 is fitted with an additional feature that increases both the gain and flexibility in all three of its Modes.
First seen on our Carlos Santana Tribute, the KING SNAKE™, an adjustable GAIN BOOST is incorporated into the upper half of the
MID Control.
