Overview

This document is an operator's manual for a CA-Series cold water direct-driven pressure washer manufactured by Mi-T-M Corporation.

Function Description:

The device is a cold water pressure washer designed for outdoor use only. It uses high-pressure water to clean various surfaces and can also apply detergents.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Water Pressure: Minimum 25 PSI, maximum 125 PSI (for incoming water supply).
  • Water Flow (GPM): Incoming GPM must be approximately one gallon more than the outgoing GPM stated on the pressure washer nameplate.
  • Water Temperature: Incoming water temperature must not exceed 125°F (55°C). The unit has a thermal relief valve that may open and release water if the pump temperature exceeds 140°F (60°C) to allow fresh, cool water into the system.
  • Hose: A quality grade garden hose of at least 3/4" ID and no longer than 50 feet is recommended for water supply.
  • Fuel: Minimum 77 octane fuel is recommended. Do not mix oil with gasoline. Use clean, fresh, unleaded gasoline that can be used within 30 days. Avoid gasoline containing methanol or alcohol.
  • Pump Oil: Initial oil change after the first 25 hours of operation. Subsequent changes recommended every 3 months or 250 hours. Fill to the center of the sight glass; do not overfill.
  • Nozzles: Various quick-connect nozzles are available, indicated by a two-digit number representing the spray fan in degrees (e.g., 0°, 15°, 25°, 65° for detergent/low pressure). Nozzles should be replaced when pressure is less than 85% of the maximum due to orifice erosion.

Usage Features:

  • Outdoor Use Only: The unit must never be operated in an enclosed area to ensure adequate air (oxygen) for combustion and ventilation, preventing carbon monoxide gases and engine overheating.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Never operate in the presence of flammable vapors or combustible materials.
    • Do not smoke while filling the fuel tank.
    • Allow the engine to cool two minutes before refueling.
    • Refuel slowly to avoid spills and fire risk.
    • Do not operate if gasoline is spilled; wipe clean and move the unit away from the spill.
    • Do not store near open flames or spark-creating equipment.
    • Wear protective goggles to shield eyes from flying debris and detergents. Rubber suits, gloves, and respirators are advisable when using cleaning detergents.
    • Stay alert and do not operate when fatigued or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
    • Never squeeze the trigger unless securely braced.
    • Do not overreach or stand on unstable support. Maintain good footing and balance.
    • Never trigger the gun while on a ladder or roof.
    • Use caution when directing spray toward fragile materials like glass.
    • Always hold the gun/wand assembly firmly when starting and operating.
    • Never operate the gun with the trigger wired open.
    • Securely lock the trigger gun when not in use to prevent accidental discharge.
    • Do not direct spray onto or into electrical installations.
    • Always shut off the unit and trigger the gun to release trapped pressure before removing the spray nozzle or servicing.
    • Never look directly at the nozzle orifice unless it is disconnected from the gun/wand assembly.
    • Do not allow the unit to operate in bypass mode (with the trigger closed) for more than three minutes, as this can cause premature failure of pump packing seals.
  • Quick Connect Nozzles: Allows for easy changing of spray patterns or detergent application. The available nozzles are:
    • 0° (RED): Blasting nozzle for concentrated stream, suitable for removing weeds, stubborn stains, caked mud. Not recommended for painted or wood surfaces.
    • 15° (YELLOW): Chiseling nozzle for a 45° angle spray, used like a scraper to remove paint, grease, and dirt.
    • 25° (GREEN): Flushing nozzle for cleaning dirt, mud, and grime, suitable for wet sweeping leaves, cleaning stable floors, washing pool bottoms, and degreasing engines.
    • 65° (BLACK): Low-pressure detergent application nozzle for broad spray patterns, misting, or rinsing.
  • Unloader Valve: Equipped with an adjustment knob to regulate pressure. Turn counterclockwise for less pressure, clockwise for maximum pressure (do not overtighten).
  • Detergent Application:
    • Refer to "Detergent Cleaning Precautions" before use.
    • Prepare detergent solution according to label directions. Never pump acids, alkaline, abrasive fluids, or solvents through the unit.
    • Some units have adjustable detergent knobs to control the siphon rate.
    • Immerse the detergent strainer into the solution.
    • Use the 65° (BLACK) nozzle for low-pressure detergent application.
    • Apply from bottom up to avoid streaking. Allow to soak briefly, but do not let it dry on the surface.
    • Rinse with a high-pressure nozzle from top down after purging detergent from the line (approx. 30 seconds).
    • Siphon a gallon of water through the detergent injection system after each use to prevent corrosion or residue buildup.
  • Priming the Pump: Essential on initial start-up and after disconnecting the water supply. Lay the high-pressure hose straight, turn on the water supply, unlock and squeeze the trigger gun (without a nozzle) until water flow is uninterrupted by air.
  • Start-up: Follow safety precautions, locate safety decals, ensure water supply is on, disengage safety lock-off, squeeze trigger for low-pressure water flow, and keep the trigger gun open when starting the engine. Brace for kickback.
  • Shutdown: Turn off the engine and water supply. Release trapped pressure by triggering the gun. Disconnect the nozzle, gun, wand, and hoses, drain them, and store in a safe, non-freezing area.

Maintenance Features:

  • Engine: Follow the engine manufacturer's instructions for maintenance to extend engine life.
  • Pump: Change pump oil after the first 25 hours, then every 3 months or 250 hours. Change more frequently if oil appears dirty or milky.
  • Water Inlet Strainer: Inspect and clean periodically to prevent pump problems and cavitation. Replace with Mi-T-M® #19-0001 if necessary.
  • Hoses: Inspect high-pressure hoses daily for kinks, cuts, and leaks. Replace damaged hoses immediately.
  • Quick Couplers: Contains an o-ring seal that may deteriorate or blow out. Insert a replacement o-ring to correct leaks.
  • Winterizing: Essential for storage or transportation in subfreezing temperatures to prevent freezing damage (not covered by warranty).
    • Procedure: Run and prime the unit, then shut off the unit and water supply. Release system pressure. Remove the nozzle. Mix antifreeze and water according to manufacturer recommendations. Remove the water supply hose and attach a 3-foot hose, submerging the other end into the antifreeze solution. Shut off the detergent injector (if applicable). Point the wand into an empty container and start the unit. Trigger the gun repeatedly until antifreeze exits the wand. Stop the unit, detach the 3-foot hose, and drain excess antifreeze. Disconnect and drain the hose/gun/wand assembly. Store all components in a safe, non-freezing area. Dispose of antifreeze according to state EPA laws.
    • Optional Procedure: Shut off the unit and water supply. Release system pressure. Disconnect and drain the hose, gun, and wand. Start the unit and allow it to run until all water exits, then turn it off. Caution: Ice chips can form and cause bursting if started before completely thawed.
