Overview

The Milwaukee M18 BLSAG125XPD is an M18™ Brushless 125 MM (5") Angle Grinder with Deadman Paddle Switch, designed for various applications including grinding, sanding, wire brushing, and cutting-off operations. This cordless power tool is part of the M18™ system, utilizing Milwaukee's battery technology for portability and flexibility.

Function Description:

The angle grinder is a versatile tool capable of performing a range of tasks. As a grinder, it uses abrasive wheels to remove material from workpieces, suitable for tasks like shaping metal or smoothing surfaces. For sanding, it employs sanding discs to achieve desired finishes on various materials. When equipped with a wire brush, it can effectively remove rust, scale, burrs, and weld slag. Additionally, with appropriate cut-off wheels, it can be used for small cut-off and shallow notching operations. The deadman paddle switch ensures that the tool only operates when actively held, enhancing user safety by stopping the tool if the grip is released.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Cat. No.: M18 BLSAG125XPD

  • Battery Type: M18™
  • Charger Type: M18™
  • Rated RPM: 11,000
  • Spindle Thread: M14
  • Max Capacity: 125 mm
  • Recommended Ambient Operating Temperature: -17°C to 51°C

Usage Features:

  • Cordless Operation: Powered by M18™ battery packs, offering freedom from cords and increased portability.
  • Brushless Motor: Provides efficient performance, longer motor life, and increased run-time per charge.
  • Deadman Paddle Switch: Enhances safety by requiring continuous activation for operation. Releasing the switch immediately stops the tool.
  • Controlled Start: Reduces the torque reaction or "jerk" when the trigger is pulled, providing smoother start-ups.
  • Auxiliary Handle: Designed for maximum control over kickback or torque reaction during start-up. The side handle can be installed on either side of the gear case for optimal control and guard protection.
  • Guard System: The tool is shipped with a guard that must be used when operating as a grinder. A Type 1 clip-on guard is available for use with Type 1 wheels. The guard can be adjusted to one of five detent slots to provide maximum protection.
  • Accessory Compatibility: Supports 125 mm accessories, including grinding wheels, sanding discs, and wire brushes. Accessories must match the tool's mounting hardware and have a rated speed at least equal to the maximum speed marked on the power tool.
  • Grinding Technique: For grinding, hold the tool at a 5° to 15° angle with constant pressure for a uniform finish to prevent gouging or burning the work surface.
  • Cut-Off Technique: When using cut-off wheels, hold the tool using only the edge of the wheel. Using the face of a cut-off wheel (as in grinding) can cause the wheel to crack and break.
  • Sanding Technique: Hold the tool at a 5° to 15° angle for proper sanding pressure and control. Use long, sweeping, side-to-side strokes. Cross sanding is recommended when changing grits for a uniform finish.
  • Wire Brushing: Useful for removing rust, scale, burrs, and weld slag. Users must wear protective clothing and safety goggles or face shields due to flying wire bristles. A Type "27" guard must be installed when using a wire wheel brush.
  • Battery Safety: Keep battery packs away from other metal objects to prevent shorting, which can cause burns or fire. Avoid exposing battery packs or tools to fire or excessive temperatures above 130°C (265°F). Follow charging instructions and temperature ranges.
  • Work Area Safety: Maintain a clean and well-lit work area. Avoid operating in explosive atmospheres. Keep children and bystanders away.
  • Personal Safety: Stay alert, use common sense, and wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including eye protection, dust masks, hearing protectors, gloves, and workshop aprons. Prevent unintentional starting by ensuring the switch is in the off-position before connecting to a power source or battery pack.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Maintenance Program: Keep the tool, battery pack, and charger in good repair. Inspect for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage, or any other condition affecting operation.
  • Professional Repair: All repairs, especially for damaged battery packs, should be performed by the manufacturer or authorized service providers. Contact a MILWAUKEE® service facility for all repairs.
  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the tool's air vents to prevent accumulation of powdered metal, which can cause electrical hazards. Keep the tool clean, dry, and free of oil or grease. Use only mild soap and a damp cloth for cleaning. Avoid using flammable or combustible solvents.
  • Accessory Inspection: Before each use, inspect accessories like abrasive wheels for chips and cracks, backing pads for cracks or wear, and wire brushes for loose or cracked wires. If dropped, inspect for damage or install an undamaged accessory.
  • Storage: Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and persons unfamiliar with the tool.
  • Grinding/Cut-Off Wheel Care: Protect wheels from wetness, extreme humidity, solvents, and extreme temperature changes. Store them in an organized way and discard any dropped, rolled, bumped, or damaged wheels.
  • Contact Cleaning: If the tool does not start or operate at full power with a fully charged battery pack, clean the contacts on the battery pack.
