Overview

This document describes the Mitsubishi Electric Wi-Fi Interface, a device designed to enable communication between Mitsubishi Electric air conditioning or ATW (Air to Water) units and the MELCloud service. It supports various Mitsubishi Electric models, including MSZ-LN Series (MAC-567IFB-E, MAC-567IF-E), MSZ-AP Series (MAC-566IFB-E/MAC-567IFB2-E/MAC-577IF2-E), MSZ-EF Series (MAC-577IF2-E), and MSZ-BT Series (MAC-577IF-E). The ATW (Air to Water) system is specifically compatible with MAC-567IF-E.

Function Description:

The Wi-Fi interface acts as a bridge, allowing users to remotely control and monitor their Mitsubishi Electric indoor units via the MELCloud service. This connectivity facilitates smart home integration and enhanced control over climate systems. The device needs to be paired with a router to establish communication. Once connected, it transmits operational data from the system to the MELCloud service, provided the end-user has registered and accepted the terms and conditions of the Wi-Fi service. The interface is not intended for critical cooling or heating applications.

Important Technical Specifications:

The Wi-Fi interface supports WPA2-AES encryption for secure communication with the router. It features several LED indicators to display its operational status:

  • ERR LED (Orange): Indicates network error state.
  • NET LED (Green): Shows the network state.
  • MODE LED (Orange): Displays the Access Point mode state.
  • UNIT LED (Green): Shows the indoor unit state.

The device includes two physical switches:

  • MODE switch: Used for selecting different configuration modes.
  • RESET switch: Used to reboot the system (hold for 2 seconds) or initialize the Wi-Fi interface to factory default settings (hold for 14 seconds). Resetting to factory default will erase all configuration information.

Usage Features:

The Wi-Fi interface offers three primary methods for pairing with a router:

  1. WPS-PUSH mode: This mode is suitable for routers equipped with a WPS button. To enter this mode, the MODE switch is held down for 2 seconds. The MODE LED flashes orange every second. If the WPS button on the router is not pressed within 2 minutes, the device returns to its initial state.
  2. Access Point mode: This mode is designed for routers without a WPS button and for setup using a smartphone. To enter this mode, the MODE switch is held down for 7 seconds. The MODE LED flashes orange every 5 seconds. In this mode, users connect their smartphone to the Wi-Fi interface's SSID, enter a KEY (found on the device label), and then configure router information (SSID, KEY, DHCP settings) via a web browser interface (http://192.168.11.1/network). This setup must be completed within 10 minutes for MAC-57 series devices.
  3. WPS-PIN mode (MAC-56 series only): This mode requires setting a PIN code on the router. To enter this mode, the MODE switch is held down for 14 seconds. The MODE LED flashes orange every 0.5 seconds.

During any pairing process, the NET LED will flash when the Wi-Fi interface successfully connects to the router. The device also provides detailed LED patterns to indicate various states, including software initializing, firmware updating/downloading, reset to factory default, wireless setting activation (Access Point, WPS-PUSH, WPS-PIN), pairing process status (completed or failed), and connection to MELCloud in progress.

Maintenance Features:

The device is designed for user-friendly maintenance and troubleshooting:

  • Reset Functionality: The RESET switch allows users to easily reboot the system or restore factory default settings, which can be useful for resolving connectivity issues or preparing the device for transfer/disposal.
  • LED Pattern Diagnostics: The comprehensive LED pattern guide helps users diagnose the device's status and identify potential issues. For example, specific flash patterns indicate network errors, failed connections to MELCloud, invalid IP address settings, or DNS issues.
  • Troubleshooting Steps: The manual provides clear troubleshooting steps for common problems, such as ensuring adequate communication distance to the router, verifying WPA2-AES encryption, checking the number of connected devices, and addressing IP address or DNS settings.
  • Safety Precautions: The manual emphasizes critical safety precautions, including not disassembling or modifying the device, avoiding use near medical equipment or automatic control devices, not touching with wet hands, and not splashing water. It also advises against user installation and recommends consulting a professional installer to prevent fire, electric shock, or injury.

For further information, including the Declaration of Conformity and the MELCloud User Manual, users are directed to the MELCloud website (http://www.melcloud.com/Support). The Wi-Fi Interface (except for MAC-56 series) also utilizes Open Source Software, with license details available at http://192.168.11.1/license when connected in Access Point mode.
