interface is provided. For data transmission,
the Modbus protocol is used (
page 26).
Connect the PC to the jack RS 485 IN (14).
For remote control of another unit, connect
this unit to the jack RS 486 OUT and set the
selector switch TERMINATION (15) to OFF.
If no further unit is connected to the jack
RS 485 OUT, set the switch to ON. Thus, the
RS-485 control cable is terminated with a
resistor.
7) Finally connect the mains cable provided to
the mains jack (9) first; then connect it to a
socket (230 V~/50 Hz). The LED STAND-BY
(8) lights up.
6 Operation
1) Switch on the amplifier with the button
POWER (7). The LED STAND-BY (8) is
extinguished; the display (1) is illuminated.
To switch off the amplifier, keep the button
POWER pressed until the display is extin-
guished.
Alternatively, switch on / off the amplifier by
remote control via a switch connected to the
terminal AC POWER REMOTE (12).
Note: For remote-controlled activation / deactiva-
tion, make sure that the amplifier has not been
switched on with the button POWER previously or
alternatively open the switch connected first and
then keep the button POWER pressed until the LED
STAND-BY lights up. Remote-controlled activa-
tion/deactivation of the amplifier is now possible.
2) To adjust the volume, keep the knob LEVEL
(5) pressed until the brackets [ ] containing
the volume value (e) start flashing on the dis-
play. As long as the brackets keep flashing, it
is possible to adjust the volume by turning the
knob. The brackets will stop flashing after
30 seconds when the knob has not been
turned or when the knob is pressed again.
The volume adjusted (0 99) is shown in
field (e) of the display. The signal level at the
output SPEAKER OUTPUT (13) is indicated
by the bar graph (f).
3) Make all other settings via the menu:
a) Keep the button MENU (2) pressed until
the first three menu lines are shown on the
display (fig. 4).
b) The first menu line
BATTERY? is selected.
Use the button SELECT to define if the
voltage is to be monitored (YES) or not
(NON) by an emergency power supply unit
connected.
Note: If you use the unit PA-24ESP from
MONACOR for emergency power supply, deac-
tivate the monitoring (OFF). Since the 24 V
power of the PA-24ESP is only present in case
of mains failure, the PA-1250D would report this
as a fault in normal mains operation.
c) To go to the next menu line, press the but-
ton MENU; to change the setting, press
the button SELECT:
H.P.F? To activate / deactivate the high-
pass filter (200 Hz) for the input PGM IN (16)
AMP SLEEP? In the setting ON, the ampli-
fier automatically goes to sleep (the mes-
sage
AMP SLEEP starts flashing on the
display) if the input signal is missing for
more than one minute. After three minutes
without an input signal, the amplifier goes
to standby. As soon as a signal is present,
it is reactivated.
AMP CHECK? To activate / deactivate the
amplifier monitoring: If there is no input
signal at the amplifier, the power amplifier
will be checked once every hour by means
of a test signal. When a fault is detected,
the display shows the message
AMP
FAULT
(
chapter 7).
Note: It is only possible to select the menu line
AMP CHECK when the function AMP SLEEP has
been deactivated. If the function AMP SLEEP is
activated, the function AMP CHECK will auto-
matically be deactivated.
VU GAIN? To switch the level indication
(f) between effective value (RMS) and
peak value (PEAK)
AMP NO. To set the amplifier number
(1 4) when the amplifier is controlled via
a PC
COMM ID To set the ID number of the unit
(0 98)) when the amplifier is controlled
via a PC
BAUDRATE To set the baud rate (9600 or
19 200 bauds) when the amplifier is con-
trolled via a PC
d) To memorize and exit the menu, press the
button SAVE (4).
EDITING SAVE briefly
flashes on the display, then the indication
for normal operation reappears (fig. 2).
7 Display Messages
The display shows various operating modes and
faults. If there is an audible warning signal in
case of a fault, press the button BUZZER (4) to
deactivate this signal.
Inputs
This message keeps flashing on the display as
long as a signal is present at the input PRIORITY
IN (17). In this case, the input PGM IN (16) is
muted.
This message is displayed when the input signal
is missing for one minute and
ON has been set in
the line AMP SLEEP? of the menu. In this case,
the amplifier is in the sleep mode. It is switched
on again when any button is pressed or when the
input signal is present again. If the signal is miss-
ing for three minutes, the amplifier will go to
standby. From standby, the amplifier is switched
on again as soon as an input signal is present.
Power supply
This message is displayed when the mains volt-
age falls below approx. 190 V. In this case, the
power amplifier is switched off.
If the mains voltage fails, the amplifier will go to
emergency power supply. The message
BATT.
OPERATING
flashes a few times when YES has
been set in the line
BATTERY?. Then the display
returns to normal indication of the operating
mode (fig. 2); however, BAT starts flashing
behind POWER.
This message appears when the voltage of the
emergency power supply falls below approx.
21 V. If the voltage is further reduced below
approx. 19 V, the connection to the emergency
power supply will be disconnected internally.
Overload
This message appears in case of overload of the
amplifier (e. g. if the number of speakers con-
nected is too high). The output voltage is
reduced. If there is still an overload after 10 sec-
onds (e. g. in case of short circuit), the speaker
output will be muted. The following message
appears:
If the power consumption is too high (e. g. over-
load of speaker output or fault in the amplifier),
the following message may appear:
The protective circuit has switched off the power
amplifier. To find the fault, disconnect the plug-in
screw terminal SPEAKER OUTPUT (13) from
the amplifier. Use a thin object to press the reset
button (6). The power amplifier is switched on
again. If no fault indication appears, the fault is
due to the speaker cable or the speakers. If the
fault indication reappears, the amplifier is defec-
tive and must be repaired.
Overheating
This message appears when the amplifier is
overheated (e. g. in case of insufficient heat dis-
sipation). The output power is limited to
1
8 of the
rated power. If the temperature of the heat sink
in the amplifier still continues to rise, the speaker
output will be muted. The following message
appears:
As soon as the temperature is back to normal,
the amplifier returns to the rated output power.
Amplifier fault
This message is displayed when the micro-
processor of the PA-1250D has detected a fault
in the power amplifier by means of a test signal
(once every hour). Condition for the self-test:
ON is set in the line AMP CHECK of the menu
(
chapter 6) and no input signal is present.
