What to do if Monessen Hearth Gas Heater sparks but doesn't ignite?
    • S
      Shannon BartonAug 25, 2025
If your Monessen Hearth Gas Heater is sparking but not igniting, it could be due to a few reasons. First, check if the gas supply is turned on or if the manual shutoff valve is open. Ensure the control knob is in the PILOT position and pressed in while in that position. If there's air in the gas lines from a recent installation, continue holding down the control knob and repeat the igniting operation until the air is removed. Also, the ODS/pilot might be clogged (in this case replace ODS/pilot assembly or get it serviced), or the gas regulator setting might not be correct, so check the incoming pressure and replace the gas regulator if needed.

If you smell gas from your Monessen Hearth Gas Heater even when the control knob is in the OFF position, it's likely due to a gas leak or a defective control valve. You should locate and correct all leaks, or replace the control valve.

Why does my Monessen Hearth Gas Heater smell?
    • K
      Kenneth GeorgeAug 27, 2025
Your Monessen Hearth Gas Heater might be producing unwanted odors because it's burning vapors from paint, hair spray, glues, or other similar products. Another cause could be a gas leak or initial burn off. To address this, ventilate the room and stop using odor-causing products while the heater is running. If it is a gas leak, locate and correct all leaks. If it's due to initial burn off, ventilate the room and turn the unit on high until the odor is gone; it should dissipate after about six hours of continuous use.

How to fix no spark at pilot light on Monessen Hearth Gas Heater?
    • A
      Alex LongAug 27, 2025
If there's no spark at the ODS/pilot when you press the ignitor button on your Monessen Hearth Gas Heater, the ignitor electrode might be positioned wrong or broken, in which case you should replace the ignitor. It could also be that the ignitor electrode is not connected to the ignitor cable, so reconnect it. The ignitor cable might be pinched or wet; free it if pinched or replace it if wet. Finally, the ignitor cable could be broken, or the piezo ignitor could be bad, so replace the ignitor cable or the piezo ignitor.
