The Moonboon Motor is a device designed to provide gentle, rhythmic motion for baby hammocks, twin baby hammocks, or cradles, aiding in soothing infants. It is intended for indoor use only, within specific temperature and humidity ranges.
Function Description
The Moonboon Motor operates by keeping a spring in constant motion, which in turn moves the attached baby hammock, twin baby hammock, or cradle. This motion is designed to mimic a gentle rocking or bouncing sensation, helping babies to relax and sleep. The motor features adjustable settings for both the duration of operation (Timer) and the speed of the motion (Tempo). It is activated by a gentle push or pull on the attached hammock or cradle once the settings are selected. A safety mechanism is integrated, causing the motor to stop and indicate a red light if it detects irregular tugging, insufficient weight, or other malfunctions.
Important Technical Specifications
- Weight Range: The product is designed for babies weighing between 4 kg (9 lbs) and 20 kg (44 lbs). If using a baby hammock from a different supplier, the minimum weight may be 6 kg (13 lbs) due to spring stiffness variations.
- Power Supply: The motor operates with a 24V power supply, which comes with a 3-meter (10 feet) cord.
- Operating Temperatures: The motor should be used indoors at temperatures between 0°C (32°F) and 45°C (113°F).
- Humidity: The operating humidity range is 0-80%.
- Power Network: The motor is not approved for use in countries without an AC power network operating at 100-240 Vrms AC. It is also not approved for use if connected to a direct current power source without safety standard certification.
- Strap/Chain Length (for ceiling mounting):
- For babies weighing less than 8 kg (17.6 lbs), the strap/chain between the motor and the ceiling must not exceed 15 cm (6 inches).
- For babies weighing more than 8 kg (17.6 lbs), the strap/chain between the motor and the ceiling must not exceed 50 cm (20 inches).
- Minimum Height (Door Frame Clamp): When mounted in a Door Frame Clamp, a minimum of 220 cm (86 inches) between the door frame and the floor is required.
Usage Features
- Assembly: The motor comes with two carabiners with plastic parts. These plastic parts prevent metal-on-metal contact. The carabiners must be attached to the motor from the side, lying flat, and then locked. The narrow end of the carabiners should point towards the motor.
- Mounting: The motor can be mounted using a Tripod Stand 2.0, Door Frame Clamp, or Mounting Kit. When hanging from a ceiling hook, a stainless steel hook without coating is recommended. The power cable is fed into a small hole at the top of the motor and should be kept away from the hammock/cradle.
- Nylon String Fastening: After mounting the hammock/cradle, the nylon string from the bottom of the motor must be wound around the fabric at the top of the hammock/cradle and fastened with an S-hook. This ensures the string is securely fixed and maintains distance between the motor wire and the spring, preventing wear on the spring's fabric cover.
- Timer Function: The upper 'TIMER' button allows setting the operation duration. Each of the three dots on the button represents 1 hour, allowing for operation between 5 minutes and 3 hours.
- Tempo Function: The lower 'TEMPO' button controls the speed of the motion. Turning the arrow to the left sets the lowest speed, and to the right sets the highest speed.
- Starting the Motor: To start, first set the 'TIMER', then the 'TEMPO'. Once both buttons are set and the light is green, activate the hammock/cradle by pressing down on it once or twice. The motor will then begin operating automatically.
- Stopping the Motor: The motor can be stopped at any time by turning the buttons back to their leftmost position or by touching the hammock or spring. If stopped by touching, the motor light will turn red, and it must be restarted.
- Safety Checks: Regular checks are crucial, especially as the child grows and becomes heavier, to ensure the hammock/cradle never touches the floor during operation. The user manual emphasizes performing "First test: Without child" and "Second test: With child" to verify adequate clearance.
- Malfunction Indication:
- No light: Check power cord connection and power supply. If the issue persists, servicing may be required.
- Light alternates between red and green: Indicates incorrect power supply. Refer to the safety checklist for details.
- Red light: Indicates a malfunction. The motor can be restarted by turning off and on both buttons. Repeated red light could be due to insufficient weight, excessive strap/chain length, starting at too low a speed, incorrect motor wire fastening, or excessive movement of the child.
- Safety Warnings:
- Do not use the product until the user manual has been read.
- Discontinue use when the child can sit, kneel, pull themselves up, turn over, or crawl out of the hammock/cradle.
- The motor is not a toy and should not be pushed with a child inside.
- Do not use if there is obvious damage or wear.
- Always stay in the vicinity of the hammock/cradle when a baby is in it.
- Only use original hanging devices and ensure carabiners are locked.
- Always use the supplied plastic parts to prevent metal-on-metal contact.
- The motor is designed to work with Moonboon's own hammocks/cradles and springs. Compatibility with other brands may vary, potentially affecting minimum weight requirements.
Maintenance Features
- Cleaning: The motor shell should be cleaned with a damp cloth without soap or detergent. Avoid using soap or other chemicals. Keep the motor away from water and dirt.
- Disposal: The product is marked with a crossed-out wheel bin symbol, indicating it falls under European Directive 2002/96/EC. It should not be disposed of with general household waste but through separate collection of electrical and electronic products, following local rules to prevent negative environmental and health consequences.
