OPERATIONAL INSTRUCTIONS
AND TRAINING GUIDELINES
To ensure optimal performance and
compliance with the RF energy exposure
limits in the above standards and
guidelines, users should transmit no more
than 50% of the time and always adhere to
the following procedures:
Transmit and Receive
• To transmit (talk), push the Push-To-Talk
(PTT) button; to receive, release the PTT
button.
• Transmit only when people outside the
vehicle are at least the minimum lateral
distance away, as shown in Table 1, from
a properly installed, externally-mounted
antenna.
Table 1 lists the minimum lateral distance
for bystanders in an uncontrolled
environment from the transmitting antenna
at several different ranges of rated radio
power for mobile radios installed in a
vehicle.
Mobile Antennas
• Install antennas at the center of the roof
or the center of the trunk deck. These
mobile antenna installation guidelines
are limited to metal body vehicles.
• The antenna installation must addition-
ally be in accordance with:
a. The requirements of the antenna manu-
facturer/supplier
b. Instructions in the Radio Installation
Manual
