Overview

This document is an installation and owner's manual for the MRCOOL Advantage Series air conditioning unit, emphasizing that installation should be performed by an authorized technician.

Function Description:

The MRCOOL Advantage Series is an air conditioning system designed for residential or light commercial use, providing cooling, heating, and dehumidification functions. It is available in both inverter split type and fixed-speed type models, with various capacities. The system uses refrigerants such as R410A, R32, or R290, depending on the specific model. The unit is designed for comfort, with features aimed at energy efficiency and user convenience.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Refrigerant Types: R410A, R32, or R290. For R32 models, the appliance must be installed, operated, and stored in a room with a floor area larger than 4m². For R290 models, room area requirements vary by BTU/h: <=9000Btu/h (13m²), >9000Btu/h and <=12000Btu/h (17m²), >12000Btu/h and <=18000Btu/h (26m²), >18000Btu/h and <=24000Btu/h (35m²).
  • Operating Temperature Ranges (Inverter Split Type):
    • Cool Mode: Room Temperature: 17°C - 32°C (62°F - 90°F). Outdoor Temperature: 0°C - 50°C (32°F - 122°F), with models supporting low-temp cooling down to -15°C (5°F) and special tropical models up to 52°C (126°F).
    • Heat Mode: Room Temperature: 0°C - 30°C (32°F - 86°F). Outdoor Temperature: -15°C - 30°C (5°F - 86°F).
    • Dry Mode: Room Temperature: 10°C - 32°C (50°F - 90°F). Outdoor Temperature: 0°C - 50°C (32°F - 122°F), with special tropical models up to 52°C (126°F).
  • Operating Temperature Ranges (Fixed-speed Type):
    • Cool Mode: Room Temperature: 17°C-32°C (62°F-90°F). Outdoor Temperature: 18°C-43°C (64°F-109°F), with models supporting low-temp cooling down to -7°C (19°F) and special tropical models up to 52°C (126°F).
    • Heat Mode: Room Temperature: 0°C-30°C (32°F-86°F). Outdoor Temperature: -7°C-24°C (19°F-75°F).
    • Dry Mode: Room Temperature: 10°C-32°C (50°F-90°F). Outdoor Temperature: 11°C-43°C (52°F-109°F), with special tropical models up to 52°C (126°F).
  • Refrigerant Piping: Maximum length and drop height vary by model capacity. For example, R410A/R32 Inverter Split Air Conditioners: <15,000 BTU/h: 25m (82ft) length, 10m (33ft) drop; ≥24,000 and <36,000 BTU/h: 50m (164ft) length, 25m (82ft) drop. Minimum pipe run of 3 meters is required.
  • Electrical Connections: All wiring must comply with local and national electrical codes. Minimum cross-sectional area of power and signal cables is specified based on rated current.
  • UV-C Lamp (Applicable to units containing one): Emits UV-C radiation; maintenance instructions must be read before opening. Not to be operated outside the appliance or if damaged. UV-C BARRIERS should not be removed.

Usage Features:

  • Indoor Unit Display: Features an LED display showing temperature, operation mode (ECO, COOL, DRY, HEAT), wireless control status, and error codes. Different models have varying display windows and indicators.
  • Light Sensor: Built-in light sensor detects ambient brightness; display turns off after 7 seconds in low light for comfortable sleep.
  • Auto-Restart: If power is lost, the unit automatically restarts with prior settings.
  • Anti-mildew (some units): Dries condensed water to prevent mildew growth when turned off from COOL, AUTO (COOL), or DRY modes.
  • Wireless Control (some units): Allows control via a mobile phone and wireless connection. USB device access requires professional staff.
  • Louver Angle Memory (some units): Louver resumes its former angle upon startup.
  • Refrigerant Leakage Detection: Indoor unit displays "EC" or "ELOC" or flashes LEDs upon detecting a refrigerant leak.
  • Sleep Operation: Decreases energy use during sleep by gradually adjusting temperature (increases 1°C/2°F per hour for two hours in COOL mode, decreases 1°C/2°F per hour for two hours in HEAT mode). Stops after 8 hours. Not available in FAN or DRY mode.
  • Airflow Control: Vertical airflow angle can be set via remote control (SWING/DIRECT button). Horizontal airflow angle is set manually by gripping the deflector rod.
  • Manual Operation: An emergency operation feature for use when the remote control is lost. Allows activation of FORCED AUTO mode, FORCED COOLING mode, or turning the unit off by pressing a button on the indoor unit.

Maintenance Features:

  • Air Filter Cleaning: Filters should be cleaned every two weeks to maintain efficiency and health. Involves lifting the front panel, removing the filter, cleaning with warm, soapy water, drying, and re-installing. Air freshening filters (if present) should be vacuumed.
  • Air Filter Reminders (Optional):
    • Cleaning Reminder: "CL" flashes after 240 hours of use. Reset by pressing the LED button 4 times or MANUAL CONTROL button 3 times.
    • Replacement Reminder: "nF" flashes after 2,880 hours of use. Reset by pressing the LED button 4 times or MANUAL CONTROL button 3 times.
  • Long Periods of Non-Use: Recommendations include cleaning filters, turning on FAN function to dry the unit, turning off and disconnecting power, and removing remote control batteries.
  • Pre-Season Inspection: Before frequent use, check for damaged wires, clean filters, check for leaks, and replace remote control batteries. Ensure air inlets and outlets are not blocked.
  • Outdoor Unit Maintenance: Any maintenance, cleaning, or repairs of the outdoor unit should be performed by an authorized dealer or licensed service provider.
  • Electrical Safety Checks: Before and during test runs, confirm proper grounding and check for electrical leakage using an electroprobe and multimeter.
  • Gas Leak Checks: Two methods: Soap and Water Method (bubbles indicate a leak) and Leak Detector Method. Performed on all flare nut connections.
