Why does my MTD 243cc fail to start?
    • J
      Jasmine JacksonAug 6, 2025
If your MTD engine fails to start, there are several potential reasons. It could be that the engine is flooded, in which case you should wait at least 10 minutes before attempting to start it again. Other possible causes include a disconnected spark plug wire (connect it to the spark plug), an empty or stale fuel tank (fill it with clean, fresh gasoline), the engine not being choked (choke the engine), a faulty spark plug (clean, adjust the gap, or replace it), or the throttle being in the stop position (move the throttle to the FAST/Run position).

What to do if MTD 243cc Engine runs erratically?
    • L
      Lisa TurnerAug 19, 2025
If your MTD engine runs erratically, it might be due to a loose spark plug wire (connect and tighten it). Another cause could be a spark plug that is scorched, defective, or has an incorrectly set electrode gap (readjust the electrode gap or replace the spark plug). Stale fuel can also cause this issue, so fill the tank with clean, fresh gasoline. Additionally, check if the engine is running with the choke on (move the choke to off) or if there's water or dirt in the fuel system (drain the fuel tank and refill with fresh fuel).
