      Megan LittleAug 16, 2025
If your MTD Engine runs erratically, start by checking the spark plug boot to ensure it's securely connected and tightened. A loose connection can cause inconsistent performance. Also, check for reduced fuel flow or a blocked fuel filter and replace the fuel filter as instructed in the Maintenance section. Make sure the vent in the gas cap isn't plugged, as this can affect fuel delivery. Additionally, water or dirt in the fuel system can cause erratic running, so drain the fuel tank and refill it with fresh fuel. If equipped with a choke, make sure the unit is not running with the choke applied; push the choke knob in to disengage it.
