If your MTD Engine runs erratically, start by checking the spark plug boot to ensure it is connected and tightened. A blocked fuel filter can also cause this issue, so replace it as instructed in the Maintenance section. If your engine has a gas cap vent, make sure it's clear. Water or dirt in the fuel system can also lead to erratic running; drain the fuel tank and refill with fresh fuel. Also, make sure the unit is not running with the CHOKE applied; push the CHOKE knob in if it is. For a dirty air cleaner, refer to the engine manual for cleaning instructions.
