What to do if the cylinder rod will not move on my MTD 25-Ton Log Splitter?

  If the cylinder rod on your MTD Log Splitter isn't moving, there could be several reasons. Start by checking if the shipping plugs were left in the hydraulic hoses; if so, disconnect the hoses, remove the plugs, and reconnect them. Also, verify the oil level is correct. The hydraulic lines or control valve might be blocked, in which case you should flush and clean the hydraulic system. Ensure that the shaft coupling isn't loose and correct the engine/pump alignment if necessary.

Avoid attempting to split wood against the grain, as an overloaded cylinder can also be the reason.

  If your MTD Log Splitter has a slow cylinder shaft speed while extending and retracting, the oil level might be incorrect, so check it. Also, contaminated oil can cause this, so drain the oil, clean the reservoir, and refill. Make sure the pump inlet hoses are clear and unblocked.
