Why MTD Snow Blower engine fails to start?
    • J
      Joshua BenitezAug 14, 2025
Your MTD Snow Blower engine might fail to start due to several reasons: the choke may not be in the CHOKE position, the spark plug wire might be disconnected, the fuel tank could be empty or contain stale fuel, the engine may not be primed, the spark plug could be faulty, the safety key may not be fully inserted, or the extension cord may not be connected (if equipped with an electric start). To resolve this, move the choke to the CHOKE position, connect the wire to the spark plug, fill the tank with clean, fresh fuel, prime the engine as instructed in the Engine Manual, clean/adjust/replace the spark plug, insert the safety key fully, or connect the extension cord to a grounded AC outlet.

What to do if MTD 800 Snow Blower engine running erratically?
    • B
      Brittany JacksonAug 21, 2025
If your MTD Snow Blower engine is running erratically, it might be due to the engine running on CHOKE, stale fuel, water or dirt in the fuel system, a carburetor out of adjustment, or the engine being over-governed. Try moving the choke lever to the RUN position, fill the tank with clean, fresh fuel, or drain the fuel tank and refill it with fresh fuel. For carburetor or over-governed issues, contact an authorized Service Center.

What to do if MTD 800 Snow Blower unit fails to discharge snow?
    • M
      mcculloughmatthewAug 25, 2025
If your MTD Snow Blower fails to discharge snow, the chute assembly could be clogged, a foreign object might be lodged in the auger, the auger control cable may need adjustment, the auger belt might be loose or damaged or the shear pins may be sheared. To address this, stop the engine immediately, disconnect the spark plug wire, and clean the chute assembly and inside of the auger housing with a clean-out tool. Also remove any foreign objects from the auger. For cable and belt issues, refer to the corresponding sections, and replace any sheared pins.

    • F
      fturnerAug 28, 2025
Your MTD Snow Blower might be plowing snow instead of blowing it due to low ground speed in wet or slushy snow, or sheared shear pins. Increase the ground speed and always operate the snow thrower engine at FULL throttle. Also, replace any sheared shear pins.
