Tires Jump Starting

Therecommendedoperatingtire pressureis:
Approximately10psiforthereartires
Approximately14psiforthefronttires
IMPORTANT:Referto the tire sidewallforexacttire
manufacturer'srecommendedormaximumpsi.Donot
overinflate.Uneventire pressurecouldcausethe cutting
decktomowunevenly.
Battery
Thebatteryissealedandis maintenance-free.Acid
levelscannotbe checked.
Alwayskeepthe batterycablesandterminalsclean
andfreeofcorrosivebuild-up.
Aftercleaningthe batteryandterminals,applya light
coatofpetroleumjelly or greasetobothterminals.
Alwayskeepthe rubberbootpositionedoverthe
positiveterminalto preventshorting.
IMPORTANT:If removingthebatteryforanyreason,
disconnecttheNEGATIVE(Black)wire fromit'sterminal
first,followedbythePOSITIVE(Red)wire.When
re-installingthebattery,alwaysconnectthe POSITIVE
(Red)wire itsterminalfirst,followedbythe NEGATIVE
(Black)wire.Becertainthat thewiresareconnectedto
thecorrectterminals;reversingthemcouldchangethe
polarityandresultindamagetoyourengine'salternat-
ingsystem.
Charging
IMPORTANT:Whenchargingyour tractor'sbattery,use
onlya chargerdesignedfor 12Vlead-acidbatteries.
Readyourbatterycharger'sOwner'sManualpriorto
chargingyourtractor'sbattery.Alwaysfollowits instruc-
tionsandheeditswarnings.
If yourtractorhasnot beenput intouseforan extended
periodoftime,chargethebatteryas follows:
,, Setyourbatterychargertodelivera maximumof 10
amperes.Ifyourbatterychargerisautomatic,charge
thebatteryuntilthechargerindicatesthatchargingis
complete.
NOTE:Ifthechargeris notautomatic,chargefor no
fewerthaneight hours.
,_ WARNING:Batteriesgive off an explosive

,_lk WARNING:Whenremovingor installing the
battery, follow theseinstructions toprevent
thescrewdriver from shorting against the
frame.
iMPORTANT:Neverjumpyourtractor'sdeadbatterywith
thebatteryof a runningvehicle.
1. Connectendofonejumpercableto the positive
terminalofthegoodbattery,thenthe otherendto the
positiveterminalofthedeadbattery.
2. Connectthe otherjumpercableto the negative
terminalofthegoodbattery,thento the frame of the
unit withthe dead battery.
3. Start the tractor as instructedon page 15.
_ ARNING:Failure to use this procedure
could cause sparking, and the gas in either
battery could explode.
Cleaning
Cleanthe batteryby removingit fromthe tractorand
washingwitha bakingsodaandwatersolution.If neces-
sary,scrapethe batteryterminalswitha wire brushto
removedeposits.Coatterminalsandexposedwiringwith
greaseor petroleumjelly topreventcorrosion.
Battery Failures
Somecommoncausesfor batteryfailureare:
incorrectinitialactivation undercharging
overcharging corrodedconnections
freezing
Thesefailures are NOTcovered by your tractor's
warranty.
Fuse
One20AMPfuseis installedin yourtractor'swiringhar-
nesstoprotectthe tractor'selectricalsystemfromdamage
causedbyexcessiveamperage.
If the electricalsystemdoes notfunction,oryour tractor's
enginewillnotcrank,firstcheckto becertainthatthe fuse
hasnotblown.It canbefoundunderthe hoodmounted
behindthedashpanelon therightside.
,_ WARNING:Always use a fuse with the
sameamperagecapacity for replacement.
