1. Neverrun anengineindoorsor ina poorlyventilated
area.Engineexhaustcontainscarbonmonoxide,an
odorless,anddeadlygas.
2. Beforecleaning,repairing,or inspecting,makecertain
theblade(s)andall movingpartshavestopped.
Disconnectthesparkplugwireandgroundagainstthe
engineto preventunintendedstarting.
3. Periodicallycheckto makesurethe bladescometo
completestopwithinapproximately(5) fiveseconds
afteroperatingthe bladedisengagementcontrol.Ifthe
bladesdo notstopwithinthethis timeframe,your unit
shouldbeservicedprofessionallyby anauthorized
MTDServiceDealer.
4. Checkbrakeoperationfrequentlyas it is subjectedto
wearduringnormaloperation.Adjustandserviceas
required.
5. Checkthe blade(s)andenginemountingboltsat
frequentintervalsfor propertightness.Also,visually
inspectblade(s)for damage(e.g.,excessivewear,
bent,cracked). Replacethe blade(s)with theoriginal
equipmentmanufacturer's(O.E.M.)blade(s)only,
listedin thismanual."Useof partswhichdonot meet
theoriginalequipmentspecificationsmayleadto
improperperformanceandcompromisesafety!"
6. Mowerbladesaresharp.Wrapthe bladeorwear
gloves,anduseextracautionwhenservicingthem.
7. Keepall nuts,bolts,andscrewstight to besurethe
equipmentis insafeworkingcondition.
8. Nevertamperwiththesafetyinterlocksystemor other
safetydevices.Checktheirproperoperationregularly.
9. Afterstrikinga foreignobject,stopthe engine,
disconnectthesparkplugwire(s)and groundagainst
theengine.Thoroughlyinspectthemachineforany
damage.Repairthe damagebeforestartingand
operating.
10.Neverattempttomakeadjustmentsor repairsto the
machinewhiletheengineisrunning.
11.Grasscatchercomponentsandthe discharge
coveraresubjecttowearanddamagewhichcould
exposemovingpartsor allowobjectstobethrown.

andreplaceimmediatelywithoriginalequipment
manufacturer's(O.E.M.)partsonly,listedinthis

over-speedtheengine.The governorcontrolsthe
maximumsafeoperatingspeedof theengine.
