Why does PFA start when I try to fire the coupler on my MTHTrains Toy?
    • L
      leedavidSep 9, 2025
If PFA starts when you try to fire the coupler, you are waiting too long between Horn button presses. See the timing instructions located at the beginning of the "Proto-Sound® 3.0 Operating Instructions" section.

What to do if I can't get the bell to ring on my MTHTrains USER MANUAL?
    • M
      Michael GuzmanSep 7, 2025
If you can't get the bell to ring when you press the bell button, you may be pressing the button too quickly. Try pressing the bell button more slowly, taking approximately one full second to fully depress the button.

Why is there no sound from my MTHTrains Toy?
    • K
      Kelly DavidsonAug 22, 2025
If there is no sound from your MTH Trains Toy, but the lights are on and it moves, check the volume control knob on the tender. Ensure it's turned fully clockwise for maximum volume.

Why won't my MTHTrains USER MANUAL engine run when I first turn it on?
    • E
      edward68Sep 5, 2025
This is normal behavior. To prevent accidental high-speed start-ups, Proto-Sound ® 3.0 is programmed to start up in neutral anytime track power has been turned off for several seconds.
  • B
    buckannaSep 4, 2025
Why does only the headlight come on for my MTHTrains USER MANUAL?
    • A
      Alex HughesSep 4, 2025
This is normal behavior. The super capacitors are charging and this will take between 1-20 seconds.
  • C
    Christine SimsSep 3, 2025
What to do if one of my MTHTrains Toy lights is out?
    • S
      Stacey ThomasSep 3, 2025
If one of your lights is out, most likely you had been running the engine in DCC or DCS mode and toggled that light off. Put it back into one of those modes and turn that light back on. The engine will remember that when you run it again in Conventional DC.
  • M
    meyersrubenSep 1, 2025
What to do if my MTHTrains Toy engine has no lights?
    • M
      Mrs. Karen OrtegaSep 1, 2025
If none of your lights are on, it could be the same reason as if only one of your lights is out. You may have been running the engine in DCC or DCS mode and toggled the lights off.

How to fix MTHTrains Toy Proto-Coupler™ that won't uncouple?
    • O
      Olivia BallardAug 31, 2025
If the Proto-Coupler™ won't let the engine uncouple on the fly, and the coupler does not fire or stay coupled, try lubricating the coupler knuckle and rivet with a dry graphite lubricant. Also, clean the coupler by wiping it with denatured alcohol (not rubbing alcohol) and let it dry.
  • P
    Peter Wright DDSAug 30, 2025
What to do if my MTHTrains Toy engine hesitates at slow speeds?
    • D
      Daniel VargasAug 30, 2025
If your engine hesitates at slow speeds, especially right out of the box, it may not be lubricated. Follow the lubrication instructions to resolve this. Then, run it.
  • A
    Aaron WhiteAug 28, 2025
What to do if my MTHTrains USER MANUAL engine doesn't move after applying power?
    • C
      Cheyenne SavageAug 29, 2025
If your engine starts up (lights and sound) but won't move when you apply power to the track, lower the track voltage and then raise it again. The engine should start moving. If you apply greater than 9VDC quickly, the engine will just sit there. Lowering it below 9VDC and then raising it will get the engine moving.
