Overview

The NAD C 445 is an FM/AM/DAB Tuner designed for high-quality radio reception and listening enjoyment. It combines traditional analog radio capabilities with modern digital audio broadcasting (DAB) and Radio Data System (RDS) features, offering a versatile and user-friendly experience.

Function Description:

The C 445 serves as a central component for receiving radio broadcasts, delivering clear, interference-free audio. It supports three primary frequency bands: FM, AM, and DAB.

  • DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting): This feature allows for the reception of CD-like quality radio programs without the common interferences and signal distortions associated with analog broadcasts. DAB signals are less susceptible to problems caused by geographical features (mountains), urban structures (high-rise buildings), and weather conditions. The tuner performs an automatic scan to find available local digital stations upon initialization, presenting them in an alphanumeric list. Users can scroll through this list, select stations, and store up to 99 DAB presets. The DAB mode also offers various information settings, including Dynamic Label Segment (DLS) for scrolling text, Program Type (PTY), Multiplex Name, Time and Date, Bitrate, and Channel and Frequency. It includes a Signal Error Rate display to show the level of correction applied to maintain audio quality and a Dynamic Range Control (DRC) feature to adjust compression levels for different program types, helping to normalize sound levels between stations. A manual tune option is available for finding stations not detected during auto-tune or for antenna positioning.
  • FM/AM (Frequency Modulation/Amplitude Modulation): The C 445 is fully capable of tuning into traditional FM and AM broadcast stations. It supports both manual and automatic tuning modes. For FM, it can receive stereo broadcasts, with an option to switch to mono mode for improved reception of weak signals. The tuner allows for storing up to 30 FM and 30 AM presets, which can be programmed manually or automatically using an auto-preset function that scans the entire band.
  • RDS (Radio Data System): For FM broadcasts, RDS provides additional information such as station call signs (Program Service), program type (PTY), text messages (Radio Text), and the correct time (CLOCK TIME). The C 445 can display this information and allows users to search for specific program types (PTY Search).
