Overview

This document is a user manual for the NPHW 5500 domestic waterworks, also known as a household water pump. It provides instructions and safety information in multiple languages.

Function Description

The NPHW 5500 is a domestic waterworks system designed for various water supply tasks. Its primary function is to pump clear water from different sources for irrigation, garden watering, and service water supply. The system includes a water particle filter to ensure the pumped water is clean. It operates automatically, switching on when water pressure drops due to consumption and switching off when a set cut-out pressure is reached. The integrated pressure tank helps maintain consistent water pressure and reduces the frequency of pump cycles. The motor is protected by a built-in thermostat that automatically shuts off the pump in case of overheating or blockage, restarting once it has cooled down.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Mains Connection: 230 V ~ 50 Hz
  • Power Consumption: 1150 W
  • Max. Pumping Rate: 5500 l/h
  • Max. Delivery Head: 48 m
  • Max. Delivery Pressure: 0.48 MPa (4.8 bar)
  • Max. Suction Height: 8 m
  • Pressure Connection: approx. 33.3 mm (R1 female thread)
  • Suction Connection: approx. 42 mm (1 1/4 male thread)
  • Max. Water Temperature: 35°C (for continuous operation)
  • Tank Capacity: 24 l
  • Cut-in Pressure: approx. 0.15 MPa (1.5 bar)
  • Cut-out Pressure: approx. 0.3 MPa (3 bar)
  • Protection Type: IPX4

The device is designed to pump clear water (fresh water), rainwater, or light suds/service water. It is not suitable for pumping flammable, gassing, explosive, or aggressive liquids (acids, alkalis, silo seepage, etc.), nor liquids with abrasive substances (sand). It is explicitly stated that the equipment is not designed to convey drinking water.

Usage Features

Before initial operation, the water particle filter (7) must be installed, ensuring the correct flow direction as indicated by the arrow on its housing. The filter housing (7) must be securely screwed to the filter top (11). The connection adapter (12) is then screwed to the filter and subsequently to the pump's suction connection (1).

The suction line's diameter should be at least 25 mm (1”), with 32 mm (1 1/4”) recommended for suction heights exceeding 5 m. A foot valve with an intake cage must be mounted on the suction line. The suction line should be laid rising from the water withdrawal point to the equipment, avoiding any sections higher than the pump to prevent air bubbles that could impede priming. Both suction and discharge lines must be installed without mechanical stress on the unit. The foot valve should be submerged deep enough to prevent dry running if the water level drops. A leaking intake line will draw in air, preventing water suction.

The discharge line (minimum 19 mm (3/4”)) connects directly or via a threaded nipple to the pump's discharge connection (33.3 mm (R1IG) female thread). Smaller diameter hoses (13 mm (1/2”)) can be used but will reduce the delivery rate. During priming, all shut-off mechanisms (spray nozzles, valves, etc.) in the pressure line must be fully open to allow air to escape.

Electrical connection is made to a 230 V ~ 50 Hz earthed socket with a minimum 10 Ampere fuse. The motor is protected by a built-in thermostat against overload and blockage, which automatically switches off the pump if it overheats and restarts it after cooling.

To operate, the unit should be placed on a solid, level surface. For the first use of the filter, the pump must be vented via the ventilation screw (10) during filling. The pump housing is filled with water through the water filler screw (5), which accelerates the priming process. The discharge line must be open. Once the mains cable is connected, the priming process starts automatically, which can take up to 5 minutes at maximum suction height. The pump automatically shuts off when the cut-out pressure of 3 bar is reached and restarts automatically when pressure drops to approximately 1.5 bar due to water consumption.

Maintenance Features

The NPHW 5500 is largely maintenance-free, but regular checks and care are recommended for a long service life. Before any maintenance, the unit must be disconnected from the power supply by pulling the mains plug.

If the unit becomes clogged, the discharge line should be connected to the water line, and the suction hose removed. Opening the water line and switching the unit on and off several times for about two seconds can resolve most clogs.

The pressure tank contains an expandable water sack and an air compartment, with a maximum pressure of approximately 1.5 bar. If the air pressure is too low, it should be increased by unscrewing the plastic lid from the tank and using a tire pump with a gauge to add the missing pressure. It is crucial to completely empty the water bag first using the water drain screw (6).

If the power cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, customer service, or a similarly qualified person to avoid hazards. No other user-serviceable parts are inside the unit.

The water particle filter element (8) should be cleaned regularly and replaced if necessary. To clean, unscrew the filter housing (7) counter-clockwise. The filter element can be cleaned by tapping it on a flat surface or, if heavily soiled, by washing it with soapy water, rinsing with clear water, and air-drying. Abrasive cleaning agents or petrol should not be used. Ensure the sealing ring is correctly inserted during reassembly.

For storage, the unit and its accessories should be kept in a dark, dry, frost-free place, out of reach of children, at an optimal temperature between 5°C and 30°C, in its original packaging. Before long periods of non-use or winter storage, the pump should be thoroughly rinsed with water, completely emptied, and stored dry. In case of frost, the unit must be completely drained. After long periods of inactivity, briefly switching the pump on and off can check if the rotor turns correctly.
