OPERATION
PAINT
SuggestedpaintsareLatex(waterbase)orAlkyd(Oilbase).Thesearetypicallysoldunder
nameslikeTrafficorFloormarkingpaints.A‘standard’trafficpaintwillsay,“drytothetouchin
1020minutesandallow23hoursforcompletedrying”).
Twopart,waterbasedepoxypaintwithapotlifegreaterthan1hourcanbeused.Allother
epoxypaintshouldbeavoided.
Mostpaintscanbeusedwithoutthinning.However,somewill"flow"betterandbeeasierto
useifthinned.Normally,nomorethan1/4pint(1/2cup)pergallonisrequired.Alittle
experimentingwillgiveyoutheperfectconsistency.Thinningmayalsoimprovethe
appearanceofthelineonroughsurfaces.
PREPARATION
Theareatobestripedshouldbesweptcleanofalldirtandcleanedofforeignmatter(oil,etc.)
withtheuseofstrongdetergent.Seta5gallonpailofpaintonthechassis.
GETTINGSTARTED
Removethecoveroftheexistingpaintpailandinstalltheuniversallidthatcameonthepail
withthemachine.Insertthepainttube(Long,‘L’shapedaluminumtube)intheholeinthepail
lid.Youmayhavetorotatethelidsothatthepainthosereachestheshortendofthepaint
tube.AttachtheopenendofthepainthosetothePainttube.Youarereadytobeginpainting.
OPERATION
Thefirststepistothoroughlysaturatetheroller.Pushforwardonthecarrierliftingleverso
thattherollerisofftheground.Activatethepainttrigger.Paint‘dots’shouldbegintoappear
ontherollerafteraminute.Lowertherolleronsomescrapcardboardornewspaperandroll
themachineforwardbycontinuingtooperatethepainttriggeruntiltherollerissaturated.
(Youcanalsodothisonexistingpaintedlines,justbecarefultostayontheline.)NOTE:Paint
andthesurfacetobepaintedshouldbeatroomtemperatureforbestresults.Colder
temperatures(Lessthan70degrees)tendtothickenthepaint.
Thepumpingmechanismisdesignedtosufficientlydeliverpaintfora4"lineataslowwalking
speed.Thepaintflowcanbecontrolledbytheoperatorbyoperatingthepainttrigger.When
signsofexcesspaintleavingtherollerbegintoappear,theoperatorreleasesthepainttrigger
forashortperiodoftime(calledfeathering).Thispracticewillberequiredwhenyouwishto
stripea2"or3"widelines.
