Overview

The Ninja Foodi SmartLid Multi-Cooker, model OL550UK, is a versatile kitchen appliance designed for a wide range of cooking functions, combining the capabilities of a pressure cooker, air fryer, and steam cooker in one unit. It features a SmartLid Slider™ that allows users to switch between different cook modes, simplifying operation and indicating available functions.

Function Description:

The multi-cooker offers three main cook modes:

  • Pressure Mode: This mode is used for cooking food quickly while maintaining tenderness. Functions include:
    • Pressure: Cooks food under pressure.
  • Combi-Steam Mode: This mode combines steam with convection heat for juicy, crispy results. Functions include:
    • Steam Air Fry: Crisps vegetables and proteins with little to no oil, using steam for moisture.
    • Steam Bake: Bakes fluffy cakes and sweet treats, also leveraging steam.
  • Air Fry/Hob Mode: This mode provides traditional cooking methods without pressure. Functions include:
    • Air Fry: Gives food crispness and crunch with little to no oil.
    • Grill: Uses high temperature to caramelize and brown food.
    • Bake: Functions like an oven for baked treats and more.
    • Dehydrate: Dehydrates meats, fruits, and vegetables for healthy snacks.
    • Sear/Sauté: Acts as a hob for browning meats, sautéing vegetables, simmering sauces, and more.
    • Steam: Gently cooks delicate foods at a high temperature.
    • Slow Cook: Cooks food at a lower temperature for a longer period of time.
    • Yogurt: Pasteurizes and ferments milk for creamy homemade yogurt.

The unit also includes a KEEP WARM function, which automatically activates after steam, slow cook, and pressure cycles to maintain food temperature. This can be manually disabled.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Voltage: 230V~, 50Hz
  • Watts: 1460W
  • Volume: 6L (removable cooking pot)
  • Fluid Group: 2
  • PS (Pressure Setting): 40 kPa

Usage Features:

  • Control Panel: The control panel includes the SmartLid Slider™ to select cook modes, a dial to scroll through functions, left arrows to adjust temperature/internal outcome, and right arrows to adjust cook time. A START/STOP button initiates or stops cooking, and a POWER button shuts off the unit.
  • SmartLid Slider™: This unique feature allows seamless transition between pressure, combi-steam, and air fry/hob modes. The lid can only be opened when the slider is in the COMBI-STEAM or AIR FRY/HOB position and the unit is depressurized.
  • Accessories: The multi-cooker comes with a reversible rack, a Cook & Crisp™ Basket with a detachable diffuser, and a 6L removable cooking pot.
  • Water Test (First Use): A recommended water test helps first-time users familiarize themselves with pressure cooking. It involves adding 700ml of room-temperature water, closing the lid, setting the pressure release valve to SEAL, selecting high pressure for 2 minutes, and then observing the pressurization and release process.
  • Pressure Release: The unit offers both natural pressure release (steam releases as the unit cools) and quick pressure release (manually turning the valve to VENT). The lid remains locked until the unit is fully depressurized.
  • Preheating: For Combi-Steam and Steam functions, the unit displays "PrE" and a progress bar while building steam or preheating.
  • Lid Operation: The lid should always be lifted from the handle on the front to avoid scalding steam. It cannot be opened when the unit is under pressure.
  • Safety Features: The unit will not pressurize if there isn't enough liquid. The display shows "OPN Lid" when it's safe to open after depressurization. The silicone ring and anti-clog cap are crucial for safe pressure cooking.
  • Cooking Time Display: For times under 1 hour, the display shows minutes and seconds; for times over 1 hour, it shows minutes only.
  • Ingredient Management: For consistent browning, ingredients should be arranged in an even layer. For smaller ingredients, a parchment paper or foil pouch is recommended.
  • Reheating: The AIR FRY function is suggested for reheating food.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • The unit should be unplugged and cooled before cleaning.
    • The cooker base and control panel can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
    • The cooking pot, silicone ring, reversible rack, Cook & Crisp™ Basket, and detachable diffuser are dishwasher safe.
    • The pressure release valve and anti-clog cap can be hand-washed with water and dish soap.
    • For stuck food residue, fill the pot with water and soak, then clean with a non-abrasive cleanser or liquid dish soap and a nylon pad/brush. Metal scouring pads should not be used.
    • The cooker base, digital cooking probe, or probe cap (if included) should NEVER be put in the dishwasher or immersed in water.
  • Silicone Ring:
    • The silicone ring is reversible and should be properly seated around the outer edge of the silicone ring rack on the underside of the lid.
    • It should be removed and cleaned after each use to prevent odor absorption.
    • It is recommended to have more than one silicone ring, as acidic foods can cause odor absorption.
    • The silicone ring should not be pulled with excessive force, as this can deform it and affect the pressure-sealing function.
    • A silicone ring with cracks, cuts, or other damage must be replaced immediately with one specific to a Foodi® SmartLid Multi-cooker.
  • Anti-Clog Cap:
    • The anti-clog cap protects the inner valve of the pressure lid from clogging and food splatters. It should be cleaned after every use with a cleaning brush. It can be removed by rotating clockwise and reinstalled by pressing down.
  • Condensation Collector:
    • The condensation collector slides into a slot on the cooker base and should be emptied after each use.
  • Steam Cleaning: For cleaning the interior of the lid and heating elements, a steam cleaning cycle can be performed by filling the pot with 700ml of water, moving the slider to Air Fry/Hob, selecting STEAM for 30 minutes, and pressing START/STOP. After cooling, the interior can be wiped down. The fan should not be touched.
