Overview

The Midi Hoard is a waterproof metal detector designed for young treasure hunters. It is the world's first waterproof kids metal detector, suitable for children aged 8-12+.

Assembly

The device comes in two disassembled pieces. To assemble, first remove the small spongy cable protector from the middle shaft and discard it. Then, engage the shafts together, ensuring the screw hole is centered in the slot. Be careful not to damage the cable during this process. Place the obround piece in the slot with the arch mark facing upwards, and finally, tighten the bolt to secure it.

To adjust the shaft length, open the lever latch, pull the lower shaft down, and after adjusting to the desired length, press the lever latch to secure it. Do not extend the shaft beyond the "max" mark. The coil angle can be adjusted parallel to the ground by loosening the nut, setting the angle, and then tightening the nut back to secure it. The search coil is not detachable; do not attempt to remove it.

Battery Installation

To install or replace batteries, remove the screw on the battery compartment cover with a screwdriver. Rotate the cover 1/4 turn as shown in the image and pull it out. Install two AA batteries, paying attention to the positive (+) and negative (-) signs indicated on the sticker. Reattach the battery compartment cover by reversing the above process and secure it by tightening the screw.

Quick Guide

The Midi Hoard features several controls and indicators:

  • On/Off and Discrimination Button (1): This button turns the device on and off. It also allows you to discriminate against one or two target types by pressing it once or twice. When discriminated, the detector will only detect targets shown on the screen.
  • Pinpoint Button (2): Press and hold this button to find the exact location of a target. The signal sound will become stronger and change in tone as you get closer to the target center. Additionally, the LED will turn green when the search coil is directly over the target's center.
  • Sensitivity/Volume Button (3): This button adjusts both the sensitivity and volume.
  • LED Indicator (4): During detection, the LED indicates target types:
    • Green: Low and high value coins, screw caps, and some pull-tabs.
    • Yellow: Rings, pull-tabs, lower value coins, and aluminum foil.
    • Red: Ferrous (iron) objects, nails, and horseshoes. When pinpointing, the LED lights up green when the search coil is over the center of the target.
  • Sensitivity (5): The device has 3 sensitivity levels: Low, Medium, and High. Press the Sensitivity/Volume button repeatedly to increase or decrease the sensitivity.
  • Depth Indicator (6): This indicator shows the approximate depth of the target with 3 levels: Shallow, Medium Depth, and Deep.
  • Target Types and Tones (7, 8, 9):
    • Ferrous (iron) objects, nails, and horseshoes (7): Midi Hoard will emit a low tone for these targets.
    • Rings, pull-tabs, lower value coins, and aluminum foil (8): Midi Hoard will emit a medium tone for these targets.
    • Low and high value coins, screw caps, and some pull-tabs (9): Midi Hoard will emit a high tone for these targets.
  • Battery Indicator (10): This indicator shows the battery status: Empty, Low, Medium, and Full. Once the battery indicator displays "Empty," the device will continue to work for a short period before shutting off after a warning tone.
  • Volume (11): The device has 2 volume levels: Low and High. Press and hold down the Sensitivity/Volume button to adjust the volume.

Overload Warning Sound

If large and/or near-surface targets overload the detector, it will emit a continuous warning sound. In such cases, lift the search coil until the sound stops.

Auto Shut-off & Alarm

After approximately half an hour of inactivity, the Midi Hoard will start emitting an audible alarm. If the alarm continues for 3 minutes, the device will automatically shut off to conserve battery life.

Correct Way of Sweeping

For accurate results, it is crucial to keep the search coil parallel to the ground at all times during sweeping. Incorrect angles or uneven sweeping will lead to inaccurate detection.

Warnings and Maintenance

  • Do not store the device and search coil under extremely low (below -20°C / -4°F) or high (above 60°C / 140°F) temperatures for extended periods.
  • The device is waterproof up to 1 meter (3ft) with an IP68 rating.
  • After using the device, especially in salty water, wash it with tap water to ensure no salt residue remains.
  • Do not use any chemicals for cleaning or any other purposes.
  • Wipe the device dry with a soft, non-scratch cloth.

This product comes with a 2-year limited warranty from the date of purchase. For more warranty information, refer to www.noktadetectors.com.
