AUTO mode:
Automatically fires in low-light and backlit conditions.

Significantly reduces the phenomenon of "red-eye"
(when a subject's eyes appear red in flash photos).

OFF mode:

FILL-IN mode:
Fires regardless of available light. (p. 34)
mode:
Lights the subject in the foreground with a
nightscene in the background. (p. 35)
Notes
When the lens barrier is closed, AUTO-S will not be canceled.
All other modes will return to the AUTO mode.
In the Auto, Auto-S Flash, and modes, the flash strength is
automatically controlled to prevent pictures from being
overexposed even when the subjects are close.
